Hawaii Kai – Love Where You Live – Reason #7

Your sense of place and belonging in the world matters. A lot. A sense of place helps us understand who we are and where we fit within the broader world. It can create a sense of community and belonging, making us feel more connected to our surroundings. A positive sense of place can contribute to our mental and emotional well-being. It can create a sense of security and comfort, making us feel more at home.

I have been writing a series of blogs describing my sense of place and some of the reasons I love where I live. My reasons for loving where I live have little to do with my personal home (though I do love and appreciate it) and far more to do with the community in which I work, play, and abide – the community of Hawaii Kai.

Today, I want to share one more reason why I love Hawaii Kai – the Hawaii Kai Golf Course. And, I’m not even a golfer!

So, why do I love the golf course? For one, I find it beautiful. The combination of natural beauty and the meticulous landscaping are visually very appealing and peaceful! The Hawaii Kai Golf Course is no exception. The views are stunning! You’ll see Oahu’s east shore, the majestic ocean, Koko Head Crater, and during the winter, you might even see the whales! Oh, and on most days, you’ll see Moloka’i in the distance.

Even though I’m not a golfer, I’m married to one. My husband loves the Hawaii Kai Golf Course. Actually, there are two courses and he loves them both.  There’s the Championship course and the Executive Par 3 Course. The Championship Course features a challenging layout with lots of elevation changes, while the 18-hole Executive Par 3 Course is more for casual play. If you are like me, the Par 3 course is a great course to learn or practice the game.

Do you like to entertain? If you do, you’ll appreciate the clubhouse. There are banquet rooms, which are perfect for events and large gatherings. The Koko Head Room can accommodate up to 160 people and the Moloka`i Room can accommodate up to 60 people. For larger events, you  can even reserve the entire upstairs banquet facility for your exclusive use. The clubhouse is also a great place if you just want to grab a bite to eat or enjoy a cold beverage or a cocktail. And, on the weekends, you can also hit up the beverage cart and snack bar if you just need a little sustenance in between holes.

Over the years, our family has spent a lot of time at the golf course. The driving range is close by with easy access and it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon. You can buy a bucket of balls and practice your swing or have fun on the putting green. The cool thing about the driving range and putting green is that they can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. They provide a great way to get together with family and friends for some friendly fun and laughter!

Of course, if you are serious about your golf game and in need of improvement, you can always take lessons. The golf professionals at Hawaii Kai Golf Course help golfers of all levels hone their skills through swing instruction and course lessons. You can take private or group lessons and there are also Junior Programs available for the next generation of golfers.

It really is pretty cool to have a golf course in the community where you live. Whether or not you are a golfer, the green open space, the peaceful and serene beauty, and the easy access to the game, clubhouse, and dining, are just a few more reasons to love living in Hawaii Kai.
