Hawaii Kai – Love Where You Live – Reason #10

I’ve been sharing a series of blogs outlining the importance of loving where you live. Why is it important to love where you live? Because loving where you live fosters your well-being and contributes to a more fulfilling and positive life experience. Your community and the people who live there matter. A lot.

Personally, I love where I live – the beautiful community of Hawaii Kai – and I also love sharing some of the reasons I love living here! It’s impossible to list, yet alone rank, all the reasons I love my community. After all, what makes life meaningful is hard to measure. And, there are just so many meaningful reasons why I love Hawaii Kai. Today, I want to highlight just one more reason (or actually, two more reasons) why I love living in Hawaii Kai.

 1. The Sunsets

Hawaii Kai, particularly along its shoreline, is renowned for stunning sunset views.  The open ocean allows the setting sun to show off spectacular displays of color as it disappears below the horizon. And, the trade winds and clear skies further enhance the spectacle, creating vibrant and vivid colors of oranges, pinks and purple.

There are some great viewing spots, but Maunalua Bay is one of our favorite spots to enjoy the setting of the sun. You can also drive to the Hawaii Kai look out point to get great views of the marina, Diamond Head, and those brilliant red  and orange hues.

2. The Sunrises!

Hawaii Kai’s location on the eastern side of O’ahu means it faces the direction from which the sun rises. This allows for a direct view of the sunrise over the Pacific Ocean.

The clear skies and calm waters in Hawaii Kai create beautiful reflections and vibrant colors during the sunrise and the low-lying terrain of Hawaii Kai, especially along the waterfront, provides an unobstructed view of the sunrise, making it a prime location for viewing.

You can stroll one of our beautiful beaches at the crack of dawn to see the sun casts its rays across the sky, creating a dramatic display of colors.

Or, you can head to the Makapu’u Lighthouse trail early in the morning before the sun comes up. It’s about a 2-mile round trip hike and well worth the effort to catch the first rays of the sun and to view the beautiful Ka Iwi Coast, Rabbit Island and the scenic shoreline. And, best of all, you might just get a glimpse of some very majestic humpback whales! Seeing blows, fin slaps, tail slaps, and if you’re lucky, breaching, is absolutely incredible!

Inspiring sunrises and magnificent sunsets may be reason enough to love this special community, but there are so many other reasons that I love calling Hawaii Kai home. Check it out. Truly, Hawaii Kai life has it all and it is why I love where I live!
