Live the Dream: 2 Of My Favorite Hanalei Homes For Sale

Hanalei Bay — The Best Place to Live

Why would you want to live anywhere else?

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? For many, the unequivocal answer would be Hanalei Bay on North Shore of Kauai. Blessed with perfect surf, spectacular beaches, verdant green mountains, and an easy going lifestyle — why would you want to be anywhere else?

Which begs the question — how much does it cost to actually live the dream and call Hanalei your home?

Hanalei Housing Inventory

As of today (July 3rd, 2012), there are a total of 16 residential properties for sale in Hanalei, ranging in price from $875,000 to $2.7M (view a constantly updating list of available homes in Hanalei).

Of the homes currently available, none are located right on the beach (the two most recent beachfront sales went for $8.5M and $13.4M in 2011). Nonetheless, every property in Hanalei is within a short 5 minute bike ride or walk to the beach, and there are certainly some great little gems available. Here are my 2 favorites:

1) Traditional Plantation, Vacation Rental Approved

Check out this traditional plantation home, which was just reduced in price by over $200,000 (MLS# 252916). This 1,861 sq. ft. home is a county-approved vacation rental, and it has a use permit for the operation of an existing preschool. With this property, you could make the move, and start a new job upon arrival…

2) Balinese Stye, 3/4 Acre with a View

A great alternative to living on the beach is to be on the bluffs overlooking the Bay. Located above the tsunami flood zone, the properties on Hanalei Plantation Road are quite spectacular. The westward facing exposure takes in the sunset as well as a mountain panorama that is laced with waterfalls.

Pool overlooking Hanalei Bay

Check out this 4 bedroom, 3,864 sq.ft. Hanalei bluff home complete with a pool and spa which is offered for $5.275M (MLS# 255554). This brand new residence is a stylish blend of Balinese and Modern architecture — a perfect mix of the rustic with state-of-the art functionality.

Balinese Style is popular for high end homes in the islands

Hanalei Beachfront Property

If you absolutely must be able to walk from your front lawn to the beach, then like those before you, the price will likely be high. Today, Hanalei beach frontage would translate into a price point between approximately $12.0 and $15.0M. Oftentimes, there are pocket listings not active in the MLS. Contact me for info on Hanalei pocket listings.

Watching surfers catch perfect waves from the Hanalei Pier

Whatever your taste and budget, I can help you to find a match in a land called Hanalei…

Nice choices Ben. A lot of folks think Hanalei is only for the supra wealthy, Great to see there are some relatively affordable (and cute) homes.

I love both of these homes. I once dreamed of buying the first one, and running the preschool 🙂 And the best part about Hanalei is that you can literally walk or bike to the beach from anywhere in less than 5 minutes. Yes, living in Hanalei is surprisingly affordable!
