Hale Hui Kai at Keawakapu Beach Offers Old School Hawaiiana Living

Situated on 1 mile of golden sand, Keawakapu Beach, the Hale Hui Kai is as good as it gets

To those of you who follow my blogs, or know me, you know that I love good, old school architecture. I feel really strongly that older construction is superior over newer construction because many of the materials used then probably cannot be replaced or reproduced today, and the architecture reflected a much simpler time. Anything prior to 1980 really gets me excited. I once came very close to buying a home that looked as if it was used as the set of The Brady Bunch.

Anyhoo, I was happy to see that a listing had come on the market in one of my favorite complexes on the island, the Hale Hui Kai. It is located at 2994 S. Kihei Road, just steps outside of Wailea. The complex was built in 1971 and consists of 40 units, all 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom (898-1,250 square feet) within 3 buildings on 1 acre.

The lot is small by today’s standards, but the beach is right out your door anyway. The best units, in terms of ocean views, are located in the semi-circular front building, however, the ocean views in the side buildings aren’t too shabby.

Unit 102 (MLS# 346515) is a ground level, upgraded unit listed at $830,000. There were 3 sales in the past year with no unit staying on the market longer than 6 months. Units in the complex do not come on the market frequently, so when they do, it’s time to act.

A private path off the lanai takes you directly to the beach

The unit is fully furnished with granite counter tops and recessed ambient lighting

The most amazing location offers direct access to Keawakapu Beach and a beach side pool

The open atrium greets all upon entrance into the complex

The low-rise, open feeling creates a sense of old Hawaii. Lava rock faced walls add a special touch

Short term vacation rentals are allowed with rates listed at some rental sites at $185-$365 for low season, and $225-$395 in season. Golf can be had at the Wailea Emerald Golf Course and The Shops at Wailea is just a short trip away.

For more information on this unit, or any property in the area, don’t hesitate to contact me.
