Four Seasons Hualalai Ranked #1 Hotel in the World by TripAdvisor

The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai on the Big Island of Hawaii has been named as the Travelers’ Choice 2013’s Number 1 Hotel in the World (TripAdvisor).

For those who have taken advantage of what Hualalai has to offer, this top honor comes as no surprise. For years, Hualalai has been steadily accumulating loyalists from all over the world, attracted to the understated elegance and masterful means of bringing Hawaii’s unique nature to the fingertips of hotel guests and residents.

The Paved Oceanfront Walk at Hualalai Resort

One my favorite things about Hualalai is the paved oceanfront walk that fronts the resort. Starting at the North-end, you see people swimming and snorkeling in the lava-framed Kings’ Pond, a natural anchialine pool populated by dozens of species of marine life.

Then, it’s past ‘Ulu Ocean Grille, where I suggest you try the “Coffee Bong” (seriously fun to watch and a good conversation piece). Looking to the right, you are sure to see honu (Hawaiian Sea Turtles) and even the occasional Hawaiian Monk Seal basking in the sun just past the water’s edge.

Just beyond ‘Ulu is another natural pond, home to a small hammerhead shark (my youngest son’s favorite feature). A little down the path you come upon the Sea Shell Pool and Keiki (Children’s) Pool. Next up is the popular Beach Tree Restaurant, made famous by its stylish decor and flawless food. Continuing down the walkway is a sleek, modern-design black-bottom pool. And just when you think there cannot be another pool, you come to the sexy, adult-only Palm Grove Pool with a covered swim-up bar.

Further down the path is the Beach House Restaurant serving specialty pineapple margaritas: so fresh, I imbibe for the health benefits (lol). The path then weaves past golfers vying for closest to the pin at the par-three 17th hole at the Jack Nicklaus Hualalai Golf Course. And a few hundred yards later, it’s time to turn around and experience the resort all over again.
