Four Fantastic June Events on Maui

Wondering what to do on Maui in June? Well, you’re in luck – this month we have something for our environmentally conscious residents and visitors, as well as food and wine enthusiasts, Hawaiian history buffs, AND music lovers!

World Whale Film Festival

Pacific Whale Foundation is sponsoring this sixth annual event on June 8 (World Ocean Day) from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Ocean Vodka Organic Farm and Distillery in Kula. Just bring your own lawn chair for general admission, and enjoy dinner, drinks, and a collection of films from around the world, focusing on environmental stewardship and wildlife conservation. Or purchase a VIP package that includes special seating, a swag bag, and entry into a raffle – along with a two-hour boat tour embarking from Maalaea Harbor on June 9, complete with cocktails, pupus, and a chance to interact with the filmmakers.

Kapalua Wine & Food Festival

Beginning on June 9, the longest-running wine and food event in the U.S. will unfold in west Maui. The festival boasts a series of interactive wine tasting seminars, food and wine pairing brunches and luncheons, and winemakers’ dinners in spectacular settings like Merriman’s Kapalua, the Montage Kapalua Bay, and the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua. The Walkabout Tasting Gala, scheduled for June 11 at the Plantation House restaurant, also includes live local music. Two “wine down” events on June 12 close out this incredible weekend.

Kamehameha Commemorative Pā`ū Parade

Anyone interested in Hawaiian culture will want to attend this ho`olaule`a (celebration) honoring King Kamehameha I. Under the banyan tree in Lahaina on June 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., festivalgoers can enjoy music, hula, food, Maui-made crafts, and activities for the keiki (kids). The parade down Front Street begins at 9:45 a.m., with each of the Hawaiian Islands represented by a princess and page on horseback, wearing the colors and flowers associated with their island. Look for our Maui princess in pink, adorned with the beautiful lokelani (pink rose)!

Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival

Not familiar with slack key? It’s the finger-picking style of guitar born in Hawai`i sometime in the 19th century, after European sailors and Spanish and Mexican cowboys introduced the instrument to the islands. On June 26 at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, renowned artists like Ledward Kaapana will gather for this 31st annual `aha mele (concert). The lineup and other details are still evolving, so check the Facebook page for updates.
