Experience Oceanfront Hana and Regatta 2023

Paddling Season is back on Maui. After a few years off since COVID, I am stoked to get to the Hana Canoe Club preseason race this weekend in Hana Bay. This is one of my favorite races in one of the most beautiful places in the world.

One-man races and six-man canoes will line up in Hana Bay throughout the morning on Saturday. We then sprint up to ‘Alau Island, off of the sandy beaches of Koki and Hamoa (#1 beach in the world hands down).

Hamoa Beach

We then turn on a buoy and race back to Hana Bay, catching whatever waves we can from Tradewind swell.

Again, it has been a few years and I haven’t raced this event for some time. First race as a 50-year-old…Yikes. My main thoughts are that we won’t have Uncle Robert Malaikini on the lead official boat for the first time. Rest in love, Uncle Robert.

Most canoes head out Friday to be ready for Saturday morning. The races go throughout the morning. Great spectator venues include the Park or Hana Hotel, another favorite hotel on Maui, and the World.

As a bonus, we will have sailing canoes racing over from the Big Island. They are beautiful to watch as they dance across the ocean downwind to Hana. They all depart from Hana to Kahului Harbor Sunday morning. There are multiple vantage points for cars to watch from different viewpoints too.

Hana Real Estate

As for real estate, consider these oceanfront gems.

Uakea Road will have the best vantage point of Hana Bay. Imagine waking up to coffee and a sunrise, going for breakfast and then watch a few races from your front yard. Or check out surfers when waves are breaking at Waikoloa. Click pic to link to MLS.

My other favorite is Kapohue Road. This has been a family compound type property for generations. We stay at other properties all the time and love it. The Gold Coast of Hana is the nickname of this zone. Top-of-the-line remodel on this beautiful home. Protected from road noise down a private driveway with only one home past this one. Dramatic cliff frontage for fishing, whale watching and morning sunrises. Click pic to link to MLS.

I love this area and will be out there as much as possible. Walking to Waioka (known as Venus Pools to some), running to Hamoa for a swim, etc. It’s the best.

I am always here for you and your real estate questions. Thanks for the read and I look forward to seeing you soon.
