The much-debated Haseko owned lagoon project in the heart of Ewa Beach seems to be back on track. The construction trucks are back out, the dirt screens have been installed, and the company is moving dirt. The connecting bridge and the roadways are all being worked on simultaneously. This project that once started as a deep water marina now seems to finally be taking shape. The new report is slating an open date of 2022, but as always, seeing will be believing as the project has had numerous starts and stops.
New Wave Pool
The rumors have been flying but it now is being reported that a man-made surfing wave pool is going to be built. KHON2 reported a story that pro surfer Shane Beschaen and his son Noah are part of the design team for the surf pool. The name of the pool will be Wai Kai Wave, and this technology is in partnership with citywide corp. They are reporting they can manipulate a wave based on a surfer’s ability from 2 feet up to head height.
The 52-acre Haseko project was just getting going when the virus impacted everyone. At the time, there were talks of 14 restaurants and a second-story cooking school taking up part of the development. With restaurants being some of the hardest-hit industries, I am sure the plans have and will continue to change for that sector. The only official restaurant named thus far is called LookOut Bar and Restaurant.
Wai Kai Hale Club
The lagoon will also house the Wai Kai Hale Club, which has been open and operating in the lagoon for the past several years. The location has moved a few times, but they say the Wai Kai Hale Club will be a permanent resident. This is a member-only section and consist of SUP, Kayaks, inflatable water toys, and a lounging area. The sand in the Wai Kai is a mixture of materials, and the water is tested frequently by marine biologists. They do have some pet hours for the pups and a large grassy area to play in.
The Wai Kai Hale club is part of some of the Haseko HOAs and is built into the monthly dues. At the time, the Kamakana neighborhood could buy into the Wai Kai at six-month intervals. The Haseko Country Club main area is the crown jewel of the area for now. The club opened a full restaurant called reflections, a pro shop, an outdoor bar and eating area, and a beautiful pool with seating and cabanas. The restaurant seems to be doing well and is close to home for many of the Ewa Beach residents. Not to mention that the country club is reported to be one of the most beautiful golf courses on the island. This member-only Ernie Els-designed course runs through the center of the Haseko home developments.
The beach park has seen some road and other improvements, and beach clean-ups have been in full force. The area seems to be cleaned up and looking much better than in years past. Haseko does plan on building a good amount of residential homes in the lagoon area. These are rumored to be single-family, condos, and townhouses. The intent seems to be to build the commercial side first in hopes of raising demand and, I am sure, also the home’s sales prices.
One thing is for sure — Ewa Beach and the surrounding areas are booming. This is from a home sales price perceptive and also a commercial construction standpoint. The live, work, and play concept seems to be taking off, and we might see many more people not having to travel to town for work in the near future.
