Ewa Beach to Add Waterfront Retail & Dining Complex

Last week, Haseko announced that they were in the design phase of a massive $300 million, 215,000-square-foot waterfront retail and dining complex. Haseko expects for this project to open in 2020, which is located along the 52-acre lagoon (Wai Kai Lagoon) in Hoakalei.

Hoakalei Community

Hoakalei is a master-planned community in the Ocean Pointe neighborhood of Ewa Beach. It offers a range of amenities to include Hawaii’s only Ernie Els’ signature golf course. Currently, Hoakalei offers both single-family homes and townhouses. Haseko has completed around 80 percent of the 4,850 homes planned for the 726-acre project.

Wai Kai at Hoakalei will have 26 buildings, which include 110 retail spaces and more than 20 restaurants and cafes. According to the developer, the retail vendors that lease the commercial space will support both local and the visitor market. Wai Kai is intended to be the centerpiece of the Hoakalei Resort, which is also expected to have about 950 visitor accommodation units. The first hotel within the resort is expected to be completed alongside the retail component, and will include about 150 rooms. The Wai Kai complex will also include a 15,000-square-foot health club and spa, and office space, where Haseko will relocate its headquarters.

In early 2018, Wai Kai will be Hoakalei’s final residential phase, which includes 800 homes. With amenities like a large lagoon, Ernie Els’ signature golf course, large health club and spa, and over 100 retail spaces, Wai Kai complex seems like it will attract both locals and visiting guests.
