City Livin’ With Your Pet: A Guide to the Kakaako Neighborhood

Hawaii has an unlimited list of things to do and places to see that influence your decision to move here: the sun, the surf, and the location! Island living really does have its perks. You may be wondering, though, if your four-legged friends will appreciate the gorgeous islands as much as you. Well, for those of you trying to build a happy home for the people and pets in your life, here are some reasons why you and your pooch will love living in Kaka’ako, Hawaii.

Kaka’ako is Oahu’s up and coming art district and is the perfect place to call home as a dog owner. With new high-rise condominium projects being completed, great restaurants entering the area, and shopping walking distance, it’s a perfect place for you and your pets.

Below are some great reasons to move into the Kaka’ako community:

Beaches & Parks: Magic Island is a nice spot for a leisurely walk and swim, and it’s a favorite place for dog-walkers to frequent and give their pets some much needed leg time away from home.

Restaurants: No move is complete without making sure you know where all the good eats are at. Kaka’ako has this covered along with dog-friendly accommodations. The new Piggy Smalls (the sister restaurant to Honolulu’s award-winning establishment, The Pig & the Lady) is a pet-friendly spot to catch a bite and have a cocktail. Also, Blue Tree Cafe and Honolulu Beer Works are dog-friendly establishments and all within walking distance of your new condo.

Pet-Friendly Buildings in Kaka’ako

Now let’s talk properties! Below are some of my favorite pet-friendly buildings in the Kaka’ako community:

Waihonua at Kewalos: This new building offers a high end hotel-like experience with views of the Ko’olau mountains, Aloha Tower, and beautiful ocean. The 2-bedroom units, like unit 3909, include 2 bathrooms, 2 covered parking spaces, walk-in closets, and hardwood floors. The kitchens have custom cabinetry with dark granite countertops and Bosch stainless steel appliances. Amenities include guest suites, a movie theater, infinity pool & spa, fitness center, yoga room, and a dog walking area. Lots of pets live happily in this building!

The Collection: Completed in 2016, this new building features luxurious views of the ocean, harbor, and sunset. Resort-like amenities include pool and spa, BBQ cabanas, and a dog park.

The Symphony: Modern style and convenience! Perfect for dog owners! This building is located close to Ala Moana Shopping Center, dining, and entertainment. The units feature floor to ceiling windows and have sweeping mountain, city, and ocean views. Walking distance to the Honolulu Museum of Art, Ward Village shops, and Ala Moana Beach Park.

Hokua at 1288 Ala Moana Blvd: Honolulu’s premier luxury condo located directly across the street from Ala Moana beach. With vast ocean views and over 1,700 sq feet of open living space, these units make life easy for you and your pet. This high-rise offers a large lap pool, tennis court, and BBQ area. Easy access to the beach and all the best restaurants the area has to offer.

Waikiki Beach

Hawaiki Tower: Desirable building close to shopping and the beach. With over 1,025 sq ft of living space in the 2-bedroom units, you and your pet will enjoy living in this building. Amenities include swimming pool and tennis courts, central AC, and 24-hour security.

Ko’olani: These condos boast beautiful living spaces with large bathrooms, walk-in showers, and deep bathtubs. Location offers close proximity to downtown or Waikiki activities to enjoy with your friends, family, and especially your canine companion. Located across the street from the public tennis courts and Magic Island.

Could These Communities Be Right For You?

Now that you’re ready to pack your bags, why not look a little further in this area for a pet-friendly condo for your family? Hiring a great realtor will make this transition a piece of cake.

When it comes to finding the right spot that is perfect for you and your pet, a realtor can match you with properties that are dog-friendly and explain any breed or size restrictions that they may have.
