Championship Golf Underway This Week at Hualalai Resort

One of Hawaii Island’s most anticipated sports events of the year tees off this week at Hualalai Resort. The 21st annual Mitsubishi Electric Championship, the season opener for this PGA sponsored tour, begins Thursday, January 18 with the final round set for Saturday, January 20. This year some of golf’s most legendary players – Fred Couples, Miguel Jimenez, Tom Watson and defending champion Bernhard Langer among them – will compete in the three-day competition.

Defending champion Bernard Langer tees off on hole one during the 2017 championship.

The action takes place on the resort’s spectacular oceanfront Hualalai Golf Course and spectators are welcome. If you won’t be here to enjoy all of this in-person, no worries, the Championship will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel each day from 2 pm to 5 pm (HST).

Luxury residential homes and villas line the fairways of the Hualalai Golf Course. The resort lies in the lee of majestic Mt. Hualalai.

Hualalai Resort set a new standard for excellence among worldwide luxury residential resort communities when it opened in 1996. Homeowners enjoy access to all Four Seasons Resort Hualalai amenities and with membership in the Hualalai Club they have access to member-only facilities including the Ke’olu Clubhouse, Ke’olu Golf Course (designed by Tom Weiskopf) and the Canoe Club. Numerous member-only special events also are hosted throughout the year.
