From Dirt to Divine – Building the Perfect Cottage in Launiupoko

I love sitting open houses. I get to meet people from all over the world. It’s the best way for them to determine if they want to take advantage of my knowledge and experience as a Broker, and if I can put up with them (wink, wink).

I met my favorite Canadians a year and a half ago in an open house property that was not a fit for them, so we headed out to find one that was. We narrowed down the area they wanted – Launiupoko. You can call it the Upcounty of West Maui. Amazing island and ocean views, ample sized agricultural lots, and no more than a 5 minute drive straight down to the county beach park with consistent summer swells. You get it all.

Goose on the loose! A trio of Nene Geese – the Hawaii State bird. A common sighting in Launiupoko.

We drilled into the available properties. Nothing caught their fancy. But we found a dirt lot that had nothing on it. But it had plans. And views. Spectacular views. And the floor plan was based off some other cottages in the neighborhood that we could walk through.

Fast forward though the CPR process, design and material tweaks, and we came out the other side with the best cottage in all of Launiupoko and maybe all of Maui. Well, the “fast forward” part is a little deceiving. No real estate transaction is without its obstacles, and over a year and a half, we had ours, trust me. My Broker in Charge referred to this as “the most reviewed contract in history.”

Life is a marathon, not a sprint…

Raise the roof! Well, not yet. Early construction at the cottage…

A little further on down the road…

Framing it out…

Come on in…

Nice kitchen!

View from the top. It really IS all about location. But a nice pool helps…

View from the Cabana Command Center – outdoor living on Maui…

It took awhile, but remember – patience is a virtue.

And it was worth the wait.

I would love to hear your story and let you know how I can help to make your Maui dreams come true.

Live Aloha. Live Maui.

This is such a beautiful cottage. The view is fantastic. I would love to design my own custom getaway like this. I think the wait is definitely worth it to get a home that you love and want to be in. Thanks for sharing this project with us!
