Born and raised on a farm in North Kohala, Chef Rio Miceli is a creative culinary talent worth following. Deemed as one of the stand out chefs at the 2011 Hualalai Parade of Homes, Rio’s cuisine is highly regarded by the clientele he serves in private communities such as Kukio, Hualalai, Mauna Lani, and Mauna Kea.

Surrounded by farmland with the freshest ingredients, Rio discovered his passion for cuisine at the age of 16. According to his website, after studying at New England Culinary Institute he went on to work under America’s Top Chef contestant, Erik Hopfinger, at San Francisco’s hot-spot eatery Spoon.

Upon returning to Hawaii, Rio found himself home at the Bamboo Restaurant, which led him to starting his own restaurant, Sushi Rock. For the next seven years, he led the way for Hawaii regional sushi and Polynesian cuisine on the Big Island, receiving praise in Lonely Planet travel guide, Wine X magazine, Seafood International, and Hawaiian Airline’s Hana Hou magazine.
