They had a blast cliff jumping and lounging here at Venus pool, which is brackish water filled from a waterfall flowing down from the mountains and the ocean water at high tide pictured above.

If you feel the need for some touch with civilization, the property is only 9 minutes to the Hana Airport and 15 minutes to Hana town, which has two grocery stores, a gas station, the Hotel Travassa and restaurant, and a number of small eateries scattered around the area. Hamoa Beach is just a couple of minutes away from the property; this secluded and stunning natural beauty has consistently been rated as one of the top beaches in the world.

Red sand beach is just a couple minutes walk from Travasa and is truly a stunner. The rock wall creates a very protected ocean pool for lounging, swimming, and snorkeling. There is a fun current that runs from the bottom portion of the inner pool out towards the main pool, you just wait for the right condition and it will gently pull you right along into the main pool – my wife loved doing this on her last trip out there.
A mile up from Oheo Gulch (7 sacred pools) is Makahiku Falls, which is about half way up the Waimoku Falls trail hike. My family has taken our children up this scenic trail through bamboo forests and several swimming pools many times, and it is one of our favorites on the island.
As you head past Kipahulu, you will encounter the Kaupo gap (photo above) which is dry, barren, and feels like another planet. The tropical vegetation disappears dramatically. Parched pastures and grasslands are overtaken by volcanic rock instead of lush vegetation due to Haleakala’s rain shadow, which prevents moisture from accumulating often enough to sustain the area’s plant life.
