6 Stunningly Beautiful Beaches in Wailea

Settle in style in the luxurious community of  Wailea, where the tropical island lifestyle goes hand-in-hand with the finest perks of modern living. This Maui Island locale is home to the most in-demand resort hotels, top-rated golf courses, and an exceptional dining and shopping scene. It also boasts of an outstanding array of beautiful beaches that add to its irresistible, island paradise charm:

1. Wailea Beach

Widely considered as one of the world’s best beaches, this crescent-shaped jewel located right in front of the Grand Wailea and Four Seasons Resort hotels is accessible even if you’re not checked into any of the 5-star hotels.

This beach is ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and boogie boarding. It’s also one of the best places to witness a picturesque Maui sunset.

2. Mokapu and Ulua Beaches

If you’re into sightseeing and marine wildlife, you will enjoy in these two beach parks. Snorkelers will revel in the thriving shallow reefs of Mokapu. Meanwhile, Ulua is a popular diving site among scuba divers. The deeper Ulua reefs make it a great place to watch honu (sea turtles) getting the “spa treatment” from reef fish picking their shells clean.

3. Makena Beach

By its sheer size alone, Makena Beach surely impresses. It comprises two distinct areas – aptly named Big Beach and Little Beach. Each offers their own brand of fun and relaxation along Maui’s southwestern shores.

Big Beach stretches over a mile long and more than 100 feet wide, providing adequate space for sunbathing, picnics, and relaxing strolls. A short hike away is Little Beach, which appeals to a more niche crowd – nude sunbathers.

4. Keawakapu Beach

This beach on Maui’s south shore is known for its pristine white sand and a sandy ocean bottom that makes it great for swimming. Keawakapu is a bit of a hidden gem due to its location near a luxury residential community.

Keawakapu has a unique appeal among scuba divers. Off the shores of this beach is an artificial reef made of junk cars, tires, and concrete. Originally dumped there to protect the shoreline from strong swells, it is now a local underwater attraction. Calmer water conditions have enabled reef fish populations in the area to thrive.

5. Ahihi Kinau Natural Area Reserve

Located just past Makena, this marine conservation district is the ideal beach destination for nature lovers and marine wildlife enthusiasts. Experience fantastic snorkeling here, thanks to the interesting lava-rock-meets-coral composition of the coastline. Enjoy natural wildlife sightings in this protected area, with generally calm water conditions making the experience even more enticing.

6. One’uli Beach

Other beaches are coated with immaculate white sand but One’uli boasts of dark, reddish gray sand. This unique color comes from ocean-ground lava and loose cinder from the nearby Pu’u Ola’i volcano.

The dark-pigmented sand of this beach is apparently more popular among hikers and adventure-seekers than among sunbathers and swimmers. However, it still presents exceptional snorkeling experiences.
