Why Continuing Education Matters: Behind the Scenes of Being a Hawaiʻi Realtor Broker

Most people know that Realtors help clients buy and sell homes, negotiate contracts, and navigate inspections and escrow. But what many don’t realize is that the learning never stops.

In Hawaiʻi, licensed real estate professionals are required to complete continuing education (CE) courses in order to renew our licenses. While these classes satisfy licensing requirements, they serve a much bigger purpose: ensuring that we stay informed, ethical, and prepared to serve our clients in an ever-changing industry.

Real estate laws and regulations evolve regularly. New legislation, contract revisions, disclosure requirements, fair housing updates, environmental considerations, financing changes, and technology all affect how we do business. Continuing education helps ensure that Realtors stay current on these developments so we can guide our clients with confidence and accuracy.

Ethics training is another critical component. As a Realtor Broker, I am held to a high professional standard and committed to putting my clients’ interests first. Ongoing education reinforces those responsibilities and encourages transparency, honesty, and accountability in every transaction.

For me personally, continuing education is about more than checking a box. It’s an opportunity to sharpen my skills, ask questions, learn from industry experts, and better understand emerging issues that could impact my buyers and sellers here on Kauaʻi.

Whether I’m helping a first-time buyer, a family relocating to the islands, or someone purchasing their dream vacation home, I want my advice to reflect the most current knowledge available. The real estate market is constantly evolving, and I believe my clients deserve an advisor who evolves with it.

So the next time you hear that your Realtor is spending a day in class or attending a professional development course, know that it’s all part of providing the best possible representation and service. As a Realtor Broker, learning is something I continue throughout my career!
