Aloha friends! It’s a fun mix on Maui this weekend, with a little something for everyone—live reggae at the MACC, a splurge-worthy wine dinner in Kapalua, theater in Wailuku, Oktoberfest in Kahului, and even a wildly different kind of comedy-meets-magic show on Sunday. If you’re looking for an excuse to get out, enjoy some music, grab dinner, or just do something different, here are a few ideas to add to the weekend list.
SOJA at the MACC
Reggae fans, this is a good one to get on your calendar early. Grammy-winning SOJA returns to Hawaiʻi with special guests Ooklah The Moc on Friday at 7 pm at the MACC’s Yokouchi Pavilion & Courtyard. Gates open at 6 pm, and it’s a general admission show, so no seats will be provided—blankets are okay, but leave the beach chairs and strollers at home. Tickets are $75 general admission and $148 VIP, with food and drinks available for purchase on the events lawn. Guests are also asked to bring non-perishable items for the Maui Food Bank. Learn more and get tickets at Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
Kapalua Wine & Chef Series

This Saturday night sounds like a good one for the food and wine crowd. Chef Elizabeth Falkner is featured for the Kapalua Wine & Chef Series at Banyan Tree at The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua. It’s one of those splurge-worthy dinners if you’re looking for a date night, a special occasion, or just an excuse to enjoy a beautiful West Maui evening with great food and wine. Dinner is $225 per person, and reservations are available through OpenTable.
Tomáš Kubínek: Miracle Man at the MACC
This looks like a fun one if you’re in the mood for something a little different. Tomáš Kubínek brings Miracle Man to the MACC’s Castle Theater on Sunday at 5 pm, and his show sounds part comedy, part magic, part old-school vaudeville, and definitely not your average night out. He’s known as the “Certified Lunatic and Master of the Impossible,” which pretty much says it all. The show is recommended for ages 12 and up, and tickets are $35, $45, and $55, with MACC member pricing available. Guests are also encouraged to bring non-perishable items for the Maui Food Bank. Learn more and get tickets at Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
‘Ainakea at Historic ʻĪao Theater
Maui OnStage presents ‘Ainakea, an original play by Kihei-based playwright James Nevius, running October 2–18 at the Historic ʻĪao Theater in Wailuku. Set on Maui’s west side in 1953, the play follows a fictional sugar-plantation family during a time of major change in Hawaiʻi. Weekend performances include Friday at 7:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday at 3 pm. Tickets range from $10 to $45. Learn more and get tickets at Maui OnStage.
Brigit & Bernard’s Oktoberfest

Brigit & Bernard’s Garden Cafe is keeping Oktoberfest going this weekend with Friday and Saturday evening celebrations at 335 Ho‘ohana Street in Kahului. Doors open at 6 pm, with the live oompah band, German buffet, and Oktoberfest beers all part of the fun. The all-you-can-eat buffet is $85 per person, plus tax and gratuity, with drinks and dessert extra; reservations are a good idea by phone or OpenTable. If you’re craving schnitzel, beer, and a little Bavarian-style fun on Maui, this is an easy one to add to the weekend list. Learn more at Brigit & Bernard’s Garden Cafe.
Molokaʻi Hoe
The legendary Molokaʻi Hoe returns this Sunday, October 11, bringing more than 1,000 paddlers from around the world together for the men’s world championship in outrigger canoe racing. The 38-plus-mile journey across the Kaʻiwi Channel begins at Hale O Lono on Molokaʻi at 8 am and finishes at Duke’s Beach in Waikīkī, celebrating endurance, teamwork, and one of Hawaiʻi and Polynesia’s most important cultural traditions. Follow the race and learn more at Molokaʻi Hoe.
Anything Else This Weekend or Next?
I am always looking to promote other weekend activities for Maui organizations. If we are missing anything, drop me a line any time for future happenings. Mahalo!!!
