If you’ve been following my Love Where You Live blog series, you already know how much joy I find in the everyday beauty around us — the kind of places that become woven into our lives not because they’re grand or famous, but because they hold our memories.
One of those places for our family has always been the tidepools near Sandy Beach.

Nestled between smooth stretches of sand and rugged coastal rock formations, these tidepools — or rock pools — are where ocean life reveals itself in the quietest, most magical ways. Clear pools form between the rocks, catching the morning light and reflecting back the sky. Small fish, crabs, and sea anemones make their homes here, just waiting to be discovered.

When our children were young, this was the spot. Armed with little nets and buckets, they would spend hours exploring the pools and playing in the shallow water. It was a perfect mix of adventure and safety — all within view, all within reach. The soft sand, the protection of the rocks, and the rhythmic sound of waves created a place where both curiosity and calm could coexist. And for us as parents, it was everything.

Now, in this season of life, our visits look a little different: quieter, maybe, but no less meaningful. We take early morning walks along the shore, the sun rising just over the horizon, casting a warm glow across the tidepools. The waves crash against the rocks with a familiar rhythm. The sand still presses between our toes. And the saltwater always breathes something alive back into us.

There’s something deeply comforting about how the tidepools are never quite the same, and yet always there. They reflect the seasons of our lives: ever-changing, shaped by time, but beautifully constant in their presence. They remind us that joy evolves, that peace matures, and that wonder is ageless.

This spot, once a playground for our children, is now a quiet place for reflection, connection, and renewal. We still love it. Maybe even more now because it carries our past while making space for our present.
So next time you’re near Sandy Beach, follow the curve of the coast to the rocks. Let yourself slow down. Dip your toes in the cool water. Watch the waves dance in and out of the pools. Whether you’re exploring with kids or simply soaking in the stillness, this little stretch of coastline invites you, as always, to love where you live.
