Love Where You Live – Reason #20 – Assagio

I’ve been writing lately about what it means to love where you live—to find joy in the little things, appreciate the beauty all around us, and connect with the people and places that make life so special. One of those places, for me, is Assagio in Hawaii Kai.

This restaurant has become such a favorite gathering spot. From the moment you walk in, there’s a sense of warmth and welcome. Kelly, the manager, has a gift for making everyone feel at home, and the staff follows her lead. Dylan, in particular, is always so friendly and attentive—he makes dining here feel like catching up with old friends.

And then there’s the food. I have to admit, I have my favorites: the fish piccata and their Caesar salad never disappoint. Both are fresh, full of flavor, and always perfectly prepared. Of course, there are a variety of dishes to choose from—like veal marsala, chicken parmesan, eggplant lasagna, and shrimp scampi. If you like steak, you’ll want to try the pan grilled New York steak with lightly buttered mushroom and onion with wine sauce. It’s definitely a favorite of the men in my family.

Beyond the food, what makes Assaggio so special is the experience. Sitting by the marina, watching the boats move gently in the water while sharing laughter and stories with dear friends, I’m reminded of how blessed we are to live here. The view, the ambiance, the people—it all comes together in a way that feels so genuine and full of aloha.

Assaggio isn’t just a restaurant to me. It’s a place to gather, to celebrate, and to enjoy life’s simple but meaningful moments. Every time I go, I walk away with a deeper sense of gratitude for this beautiful community I get to call home.
