The 2025 Ladies division Ironman has crossed the finish line. Triumphant performances by these amazing athletes has been witnessed by thousands of supporters, family & friends. Ironman’s long tradition here comes for many reasons. One of which is the Big Island’s unique micro climates and conditions.
The athletes themselves can be caught by surprise. Many of them spend extra time here to condition their body’s to the rigorous course for an extended period of time so they can acclimate and give their best performance on race day.
It’s a known fact that Ironman brings to the Island of Hawaii an economic boost like no other. During the event, local businesses and the hospitality industry overall will see as much as ten million dollars injected into the economy, as stated by Hawaii News Now. This leads me to the unique opportunity for real estate savvy folks who may be thinking, this could be an extension to the already existing visitor base we have here in Kona. Our Short Term Vacation rental pool of available inventory has been diminishing due to some recent changes in the county rules and regulations regarding zoning and special permits. This fact leads me to think that condos and homes located in protected Resort Zone areas should be a desirable investment for future returns. While that statement is never a guarantee. I do believe the possibility is likely.
Athletes themselves spend thousands of dollars each year to secure living space while they train and participate. The concept only seems natural if an athlete had the financial means, it might be prudent for them to buy a condo that would be available to them for the event and a possible rental during their time away from the island. While our inventory of condo properties has recently increased, It may be a perfect time to take advantage of the consolidating pricing and off balance supply and demand period.
Next year will be the return of both the Men’s and Women’s division together. The increase of participants will certainly put added pressure on the rental market with more athletes and their support teams looking for places to stay. As an ironman/property owner here on the island, the benefits are certainly worth looking into.
