Hawai‘i Life Charitable Fund Announces Matching Funds Campaign for Disaster Relief

Hawai‘i has seen what happens when disaster arrives without warning. The 2023 Lahaina wildfires made clear what many already understood: the speed and scale of response depend on what is already in place before an emergency begins.

The Stronger Hawai‘i Fund, an initiative of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation, is built around that reality. With the understanding that disasters can strike without warning, the fund is structured for speed and flexibility. Resources are deployed across all islands, including Hawai‘i Island, Maui Nui, O‘ahu, and Kaua‘i, directing support wherever and whenever the need is greatest.

A $35,000 Match Is Currently Active

Contributions to The Stronger Hawai‘i Fund are currently being matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $35,000. Donations made during this period will go twice as far toward supporting preparedness, response, recovery, and long-term resilience across the islands.

The matching funds have been made possible through the Hawai‘i Life Charitable Fund, a donor-advised fund of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation. Matching funds are made possible because of HLCF, Hawaii Life, Cherie Tsukamoto, Noel Shaw, and Dave Richardson.

How the Fund Works

The Stronger Hawai‘i Fund is not tied to a single disaster or a single island. It is structured to support and respond to the areas of highest need as they emerge—before, during, and after an event. That flexibility allows it to function as a long-term resource, not just a response to a single moment.

How to Get Involved
