All of the Hawaiian Islands are surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, which is a beautiful and scenic body of water.

1435 Laamia St. (MLS# 1008129) is in escrow with an asking price of $1,595,000
Although many people would love to live on the water, there is a finite amount of oceanfront residential land, and consequentially it is usually very expensive. Others like myself feel that if you can’t live on the water then the next best thing is to be able to see the ocean. For that reason, over the years hillside or ridge types of residential areas have been developed.
Because it is impossible to cover them all at once, the focus is going to be on four of Oahu’s newer East Side Ridge Communities of Waialae Iki and Kahala Kua, with Hawaii Loa and Napali Haweo to be covered in a follow up blog. Both of these have ocean views that will see different vistas from Portlock Point to Diamond Head to Ewa, and even views of Molokai and Lanai on clear days! Read entire post →

Liljestrand House above Honolulu
Most everyone who appreciates architecture knows Frank Lloyd Wright’s work, and in Hawaii, we had another great man who left his mark on our beautiful islands.
Vladimir Ossipoff has been called “the master of Hawaii Modern architecture,” ”the dean of residential architects in Hawaii,” and “the premier postwar designer of kama’aina-style residences in Honolulu.” Perhaps the most famous of which is the Liljestrand House pictured here.

Ossipoff’s Liljestrand House with views of Honolulu.
Today, on Kauai, you can purchase a home designed by Ossipoff that is currently listed as an REO for just over $400K (MLS# 235840). It sits on the rim overlooking the Wailua River Valley on Kauai’s fabulous East Side. The views are incredible from this simple home that need just a bit of TLC.
My husband and I looked at this home a few years ago and thought it was an amazing opportunity at just under $1M. Read entire post →

Wow, I don’t mean to be heavy or anything, but have you ever asked yourself questions like, “Where is the Real Estate market?” and “Will I ever fit in?”

These two questions are actually related…at least they were for me. When I was in my early 20’s, a real estate career was never on my mind. I, however, always felt that I wanted to live a comfortable life but I didn’t quite know how to get there. I suppose the phrase, “the universe will provide,” proved accurate for me. Everyone has their own meaning of “provide,” so ours may not be the same, but here are a few thoughts about both questions. Read entire post →

The first half of 2010 on Oahu has been a “healthy” market to say the least.
Last month I wrote about how more homes were selling faster at higher prices in May of 2010. June continued the trend of increased volume and less days on market, however prices were somewhat flat.

Sales Volume was up 8.4% for Homes and 38% for Condos!

Homes that Sold on Oahu averaged only 32 Days on Market, while Condos averaged 31 Days. This is phenominal when you compare to the rest of the United States!

Prices were relatively flat with Median Sales Prices up .9% for Homes and down 3.2% for Condos
What does this all mean? Buyers are realizing that the market may be bottoming out Read entire post →

The Prince Lot Hula Festival is the largest non-competitive hula event in Hawai‘i. The festival honors Prince Lot Kapuaiwa (later reigned as King Kamehameha V) who reprised the once banned hula in the district of Moanalua.

A historical and cultural treasure, Moanalua Gardens is one of the most beautiful places in Honolulu on the island of O‘ahu. Once a botanical garden, it is home to rare trees, native foliage and historic structures. The Hula Dancers will perform on one of the few remaining pā hula (hula mounds) in Hawai‘i.

The festival was founded in 1978 and now attracts up to 10,000 residents and visitors each year. You can also find the Prince’s summer cottage on the gardens‘ grounds.
The 33rd Annual Prince Lot Hula Festival at spectacular Moanalua Gardens on Saturday, July 17, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
