First Ever HawaiiCon Fantasy Convention on the Big Island Starts One Year From Today

I’ve had the honor of joining the founding Board of Directors for HawaiiCon, the first ever science, science fiction, and fantasy convention on the Big Island. Our goal is to create an annual event that brings new visitors (and ultimately residents) to Hawaii Island in the science and technology fields. This active convention will prove to be a fun and exciting addition to the Big Island’s natural wonders for things to do!

HawaiiCon Event Details & Information

The inaugural convention is scheduled for September 12-15, 2014 and will be hosted at the Hapuna Beach Prince Resort on the Kona Coast. The resort offers a luxury ballroom, meeting rooms, and fabulous outdoor spaces for the convention events. We will be putting on over 100 panel discussions with topics like:

  • Women in Science Fiction
  • NASA Mars Mission
  • 50 Ways to Leave Your Planet: Launch Systems and the Hawaiian Spaceport Project

Where to Buy HawaiiCon Passes & Hotel Packages

HawaiiCon is currently running a pre-registration event through KickStarter. Now through September 21, 2013 you can purchase convention passes and hotel packages for much LESS than the full prices. In fact, the hotel passes are less than kama’aina rates! If nothing else, click through and watch the video (including me in a speaking role…frightening and funny)!

HawaiiCon’s Goals for the Big Island

The endeavors of HawaiiCon will enhance life on the Big Island by:

  • Giving Hawaii visitors a new destination event
  • Bringing jobs to Big Island residents and tourist service providers during a typically slow season
  • Bridging the technology companies of the Hawaiian Islands
  • Putting a focus on working together toward sustainable living in Hawaii, on Earth, and beyond!

Great article Jessica! This convention is going to be spectacular. When are full price sales going to happen? Is there anyway I can add on a hotel room after I already have a pass?

Yes, it’s going to be a blast! Full price sales start next year in January. If you’re uncertain if you want the hotel pass now, you can add it later BUT the prices on Kickstarter now are much cheaper than full price. Thanks for asking!
