Makaha, Leeward Oahu Homes

Makaha is a somewhat rural region on Oahu’s Leeward shores. The small town of Makaha is located here at the mouth of Makaha Valley, resting at the foot of Mount Kaala in the Waianae Mountain Range. It is the last town on Oahu’s western edge, and beyond lies an open coastline with little development.

Makaha is 35 miles northwest of Honolulu, and the town’s rural location affords it a slow, relaxed pace. The climate is dry for much of the year, though the greenery in the valley comes alive during the rainy season. Makaha Beach Park, Keawaula Beach, and Makua Beach are just a few of the white sand beaches found on this coast. Makaha Beach is known for its excellent waves and as the home of annual surfing competitions.

A variety of home styles are found here, from Hawaii plantation-era one-story bungalows, to condominiums, to beautiful estates resting in Makaha Valley. The largest concentration of homes lies near the coast and houses becomes more dispersed inland. Farrington Highway is the main road along the coast, and Makaha Valley Road and Kili Drive are two of the main roads back into the valley.
