Kona spans the largest portion of Molokai, beginning east of Kaluakoi and south of Koolau. It holds Molokai Airport as well as Molokai’s main town, Kaunakakai. This town is the site of Kaunakakai Boat Harbor with a daily ferry connecting over to Maui. It is also the island’s main hub for groceries and everyday shopping, most concentrated along Ala Malama Avenue.

You won’t need to worry about traffic or stoplights here, there aren’t any. The island enjoys a wonderfully laid-back lifestyle regardless of the community you choose to live in.

Kaunakakai holds several neighborhoods with single-family homes on either side of Hawaii State Route 450, and small condominiums on the shoreline. Hoolehua is a rural community at Kona’s northwestern end. On the southern shoreline just east of Kaunakakai is a planned residential community, Kawela. Beyond these neighborhoods, properties become more spread out, set into the stunning scenery above the Pacific Ocean. Homes on the southern shoreline have views of Maui, Lanai, Kahoolawe, and even the Big Island on the clearest of days.
