Kaluakoi is the westernmost region of Molokai. It includes the towns of Kepuhi, Maunaloa, and Poolau. You won’t find heavy tourist traffic, or even traffic lights here. The island is known for its solitude, setting it apart from the neighboring islands of Maui and Oahu.

Kepuhi rests at the edge of the ocean around Kepuhi Beach. Poolau is just south, stretching along Papohaku Beach, one of Hawaii’s longest white sand beaches. At just around 3 miles long, the beach is wonderful for witnessing sunset and the distant city lights of Honolulu. Head into Molokai’s upcountry and you’ll soon find yourself in Maunaloa, a quiet plantation-era village set at the end of Maunaloa Road. Once home to Molokai Ranch, the town remained after the ranch’s closing in 2008.

Kaluakoi is prized for its beautiful white sand beaches and vivid sunsets. From here you can easily reach Molokai’s airport and boat harbor. Molokai’s main town, Kaunakakai, is a 30-minute drive from Papohaku Beach Park, and 23 minutes from Maunaloa.
