Kaupo, East Maui Real Estate

Related Search

Kaupo is an open and rural region of East Maui. It includes a small, historic community and general store set against the backdrop of the West Maui Mountains and Kipahulu Forest Reserve. Open plains, sweeping landscapes, and ocean vistas are in abundance here, a rare thing to find on this island. Popoiwi Heiau and Huialoha Church are among Kaupo’s historically significant landmarks. While it was once more populated, Kaupo is now a sleepy community enjoying the quieter side of Maui.

Piilani Highway leads through Kaupo, connecting it to Hana to the northeast, and Upcountry Maui to the northwest. The 13.5-mile long Kaupo Trail leads from the mountain summit at Haleakala National Park through Kaupo Gulch, all the way down to the Pacific Ocean. There is plenty of space between houses here, and Kaupo holds a mix of single-family homes as well as off-grid lots on large parcels.

The nearest towns with amenities include Keokea in Upcountry Maui and Hana in East Maui, both about an hour drive along the scenic Piilani Highway.
