Hawi is a cozy town along the northernmost peninsula of the Big Island, in the Kohala District. Just west of Kapaau, Hawi’s downtown shops harken back to the town’s sugar cane plantation days when Hawi was a busy commercial center. Small eateries and galleries are now the focal point of town. There are also groceries, a library, and gas stations in the area. This community is the turnaround point for the bicycling leg of the Ironman World Championships held annually.
