Is Kauai the Perfect Place for a Corporate Retreat?

(Hint: Um, Yes!) If So, What Makes the Perfect Venue?

As referenced in a Forbes magazine article (April 2012), group travel in the U.S. went up 8% in 2011, is continuing to increase in 2012, and this all points to the fact that corporate retreats are making a comeback.

While resorts in Las Vegas, Colorado, or even here in Hawaii play host to retreats on a grand scale, there remains a growing market for smaller-scale retreats that avoid the tourist-laden non-productive environments that can be found at some resorts and popular conference venues. As the Forbes article states, “retreat trips are coming back smaller, shorter, and with much fuller agendas than before.”

If we look at both the goals of a corporate retreat and the features of an ideal venue, we may realize that we not only have more to offer than we thought, but we could be sitting on one right now.

Goals of a Corporate Retreat:

  • Team Building
  • Strategic Visioning
  • Productivity
  • Reward and/or Incentivisation
  • Mixing Learning, Training and Adventure

Offering both coastal and river kayaking, golf outings, and all of the surfing, fishing, hiking, fine-dining, and sandy relaxation or spa services one could wish for, Hawaii is clearly a model locale for such retreats, their full-agendas and the combined goals they wish to achieve. (Take that new recruit on a 17-mile kayak trip down the Na Pali Coast and find out what they’re really made of!)

Features of an Ideal Venue:

  • Comfortable
  • Inspiring
  • Secluded
  • Luxurious
  • Immersed in Nature

Though several of these venues may already exist in the Islands, some have been around for a while and lack the fresh and luxurious pop of a newly built cliff-side estate offering expansive ocean views.

What better location is there to inspire the next wave of ingenuity?

A beach accessed by an on-property trail could offer some well-deserved serenity

With 7,400 sq ft. of living space and meticulously cared-for design, I’m wondering if this estate (MLS# 256795) represents what the future of intimate corporate retreats could look like. Perhaps best of all, the property is solar powered by a photovoltaic system located on the roof of the barn, allowing corporate occupants to rest easy that they are jiving with the green motion of these progressive times.

What Makes This Property the Model Corporate Retreat:

  • Oceanfront
  • 5 Bedrooms – 3 of which are separate true suites
  • Chef’s Kitchen
  • Pool + Spa
  • ADA Compliant
  • Elevator
  • Large office that could easily be a boardroom
  • Large living room that could easily host a mini-conference
  • Separate barn that could easily serve as staff quarters
  • State-of-the-art technology
  • High-voltage AC throughout

With local gourmet private chefs just a phone call away, this near-decadent kitchen is fit for feasts

While some may use the living area for lounging, others may map out steps towards the future

Consider This…

While Kauai — and Hawaii in general — offer the perfect array of activities to allow for the kind of experiences corporate retreats are intended for, do properties like this offer the perfect setting? What do you think? If you’ve seen luxury properties that play host to these types of retreats, what’s your opinion on this one?

As you ponder the above information, perhaps the most useful way to do so would be to consider what clients of yours might be interested in this very thing, at this very location. Note: This property is not zoned for Vacation Rental.

When the day is done, the ample lanai space offers the possibility of forgetting one even has a job

Hosted by Concierge Auctions, this estate goes to auction on September 20th. Hope to see you there!

Aloha,
Roni
