Born at Honolulu’s Tripler Army Medical Center, I’ve lived my entire life on O‘ahu and have 37 years of extensive real estate experience. I graduated from Punahou and obtained my O‘ahu real estate license within three months, in the summer of 1982. Real estate has been a family business for my parents and me. They bought the very first model home in Mariner’s Valley in 1972 and raised their family in Hawaii Kai.
My father had been a military intelligence officer, but when asked to transfer from here, he declined. Instead, he launched a new career that culminated in our family business – Hawaiian Pacific Realty – which operated for 20 years. My parents, Hal and Pat Reilly, have been active members in the real estate industry, and my mother was my business partner at the East Oahu office until she retired two years ago.
Through some personal experience, I am a seasoned expert on senior living. I've helped downsize, reorganize and sell homes quickly for those who have reverse mortgages and need a plan to help mom and dad in their later years. I have also become a relocation specialist for those moving here from the mainland or internationally.
I’ve closed countless transactions in almost four decades in the business, and I’ve been blessed with an opportunity to change peoples’ lives. I’ve been dubbed the ‘persistent professional’ by many of my clients, and as a bargain hunter by others. Which is funny because for a brief time in the 1980s, I lived in Beverly Hills and worked for the production company best known for The Price is Right.
I married the producer’s son, and together, we moved back to Hawaii a short while later, raising our family in Hawaii Kai where I’d grown up. Waterfront living and what I like to call 'beach therapy' work my lifestyle. Some of my favorite activities include sailing off Waikiki, paddling with Hui Nalu and camping at Waimanalo Beach.
I believe in aligning my life and loved ones with gratitude and living pono. Our land – our ‘aina – is one of the most important assets that our generation must protect and revitalize. I invite you to rediscover Oahu, if you’re kama‘aina – or discover it for the first time if you’re new to the islands. Hawaii is a place where you can reconnect with your spirit.
From our son Scott, who is in the public school baccalaureate system, I take his school’s philosophy of living the four “R’s” to heart and to my real estate practice: being resourceful, resilient, respectful and responsible. My real estate career feels like freedom to me because it lets me do what makes me happy.
