Going on a walk along Waikiki Beach is one of my favorite things to do in Honolulu. I love the vibe of the city. It’s never boring. My Waikiki Beach walk starts out at the Hilton Lagoon area and ends by the Waikiki Aquarium. It’s such a touristy thing to do, but I love watching all the people excited to be on the beach, often for the first time ever. I love feeling the energy that radiates from this busy strip of coastline on Oahu. I enjoy seeing all the people. It’s fun, it’s relaxing, and it’s something that I can do whenever I have some free time. It’s easy to take it for granted, but to live so close to one of the most famous beaches in the world is a treat. After all, it is what so many people dream of.
Waikiki Beach Walk Sights and Scenes
Waikiki Beach is no ordinary beach. It’s vibrant and it’s busy. For people who desire a more quiet beach, Ala Moana Beach Park is just minutes away. Waikiki Beach, however, fronts hotels, restaurants, pools, parks, and condos. Going on a Waikiki Beach walk allows for me to feel like I’m on vacation while I’m out and about enjoying the scenery. For an urbanite like me, this is perfect. I love the excitement, the opportunity to grab a coffee on my way, and to dip my feet in the ocean before or after work.
My first introduction to Waikiki Beach and Ohau was back when I was 17. I came to visit the island all on my own, and right then and there I was hooked. This was my town. This became home. Although I didn’t stay at that time, I returned shortly after and graduated from one of the local high schools. To learn more, check out the Hawaii Life spotlight on my adventures.
What is your favorite beach? Do you enjoy the calm of the ocean in a more natural environment surrounded by palm trees, golden sand, and with minimal people around, or do you enjoy the urban setting of Waikiki? There is no right or wrong answer. I like both for different reasons myself, but I enjoy people watching and seeing the catamarans go out in Waikiki. I enjoy seeing all the happy tourists visiting our beautiful island. I enjoy the changing scenery. I have done the Waikiki Beach walk countless times since the early ’90s and I’m yet to be bored of it. It works for me. It makes me happy. Living in Hawaii sure has its perks and I’m so thankful that I get to call Oahu home.
Waikiki Real Estate
While living in Hawaii is not an option for many people, owning a second home is. There are thousands of people that own vacation properties around the state. Waikiki is filled with vacation condos. The lock and go convenience is what appeals to most. There are also condotels like The Ilikai that allow residents to use and rent out their properties. While they make it really convenient to use for the owner, condotels also help to offset costs and generate income.
