State of Hawaii Announces Pre-Travel Testing

The State of Hawaii is ready to welcome visitors with the introduction of a new pre-travel testing option, announced in a news briefing held on September 16, 2020

Many of you have been holding back on listing your home. Many other non-residents in the market for a Hawaii property have been waiting for this transition to take place.

Despite travel restrictions and the challenges we’ve all faced this year, the Hawaii real estate market is on fire in 2020. Sales activity has been robust, and with some adjustments to the way we do business (virtually, much of the time), our statewide team has been fielding inquiries, selling, and finding Hawaii homes for their clients.

We care deeply about Hawaii and its people and we encourage all of our agents, our clients and friends to be exceptionally careful and responsible. We strive to protect all the things that are special about our islands and our island communities, using safe practices every step of the way.

More details about the mid-October launch of the new program, below.

About Hawaii’s ‘Safe Travels’ Pre-Testing Program

Beginning on October 15, 2020, the state’s new pre-travel testing program may allow new arrivals to Hawaii the opportunity to bypass the mandated 14-day quarantine period.

At Hawaii Life, we welcome your participation in the pre-testing program, and we look forward to helping you with your Hawaii real estate needs — just as soon as you’re safely and legally able to move about freely in our state.

Those wishing to visit the islands can soon enjoy a safe vacation or travel to Hawaii to view properties of interest.

Hawaii’s Current 14-Day Quarantine & Mask Mandate

All residents and visitors arriving from out-of-state to Hawaii are currently subject to a mandatory 14-day self-quarantineIt’s also important to know that Hawaii has mandated mask-wearing indoors and outdoors in all places where you’re unable to maintain social distancing of at least six feet.

Pre-Testing Program Replaces the Need for Quarantine

While the 14-day quarantine has been the only option for those wishing to visit Hawaii for several months, the long-anticipated pre-testing program allows visitors who have obtained a negative result on a Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of their arrival in Hawaii to avoid the mandatory quarantine.

From hawaiicovid19.comEvidence of a negative COVID-19 test result must be provided upon arrival to the Hawaiian Islands. The State of Hawai‘i is requiring all travelers to Hawai‘i to take an FDA-approved NAAT test from a CLIA certified laboratory within 72 hours of their arrival. Travelers will have their temperatures checked upon arrival and must fill out a *travel and health form. (*see below for more information regarding the Safe Travels online form)

About Hawaii’s ‘Safe Travels’ Online Form

It has been a challenge in recent months to strike the right balance between Hawaii’s economic needs and the desire to keep our citizens safe and healthy. In addition to the new pre-testing program, Hawaii’s Governor Ige also introduced other new measures to help protect both visitors and our island communities.

Beginning September 1, 2020, the mandatory Safe Travels travel and health form digitizes and simplifies the current paper-based process for traveling to Hawaii. It’s part of a multi-layered screening process designed to keep our communities safe. The new online form will be mandatory for all travelers visiting Hawaii, with a goal of reducing the amount of time you’ll spend standing in line for the airport screening process, once you arrive in Hawaii.

Travelers opting for pre-travel testing, as described above, will be able to upload their negative test results when they complete their travel and health forms on the Safe Travels digital system, found at travel.hawaii.gov.
