Spotlight on John Stengel – Marine Biologist turned Mortgage Professional

This spotlight series features some of the loan experts at Element Mortgage, our preferred lender.

John Stengel is a mortgage consultant with Element Mortgage, Hawai’i Life’s preferred lender who works with us to help buyers across the state achieve their real estate goals. John works in Honolulu, Oahu, where he can be found helping his clients determine which residential mortgage product is best for them.

John first moved to Hawai’i in 2008 after enrolling in courses at The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Following graduation, he returned to the mainland to pursue a career in marine microbiology, with a focus on researching coral diseases and the natural antibiotic properties of bacteria found on sharks’ skin.

During his time on the mainland, John missed the people, culture, and natural beauty of the Hawaiian Islands so dearly that he eventually moved back – this time for good!

Since his return, John has worked in multiple aspects of the real estate industry in Hawaiʻi. And he understands that for prospective homeowners, the home buying journey can be almost as intimidating as the sharks he studied.

Now, at Element Mortgage, John works hard to thoroughly explain all options to his clients. Through his commitment to open communication and personalized care, John helps each client find the residential mortgage product that best fits their unique goals and dreams.

As a young adult who has made Hawai’i his home, John knows how competitive the housing market is. From purchasing a first home or an investment property, to refinancing a home to lower the monthly mortgage payment, John is dedicated to providing  a streamlined transaction from start to finish.

When he’s not working, you can find John golfing, camping, or shooting underwater wildlife footage on his GoPro. No matter what outdoor hobby he is enjoying, John never takes the island lifestyle for granted!
