From everything I have observed, IRONMAN is a really big deal to a large number of people.
It is not just a marathon, it is not just a swim, and it is not just a bike ride. It is the pinnacle of all three and then some more, and then some more on top of that.
I am not a triathlete.
In fact, I’m not really much of an athlete. This person below in the photo — on the bicycle — is an athlete.
IRONMAN World Championship Triathlete
Sure I played sports when I was younger, but at some point after I moved to Hawaii I became more involved in fishing and golfing than in swimming, biking, and running.
I also got into real estate. Really, really into real estate…. oh and did I mention golf?
So here I am — on the Big Island of Hawaii. The home of the world famous IRONMAN World Championship for triathletes — and the envy of everyone who wants to rent a room here when the island is packed with visitors from around the world — and all I can think about is when I need to leave the house to get to the golf course before the road closes!

I’m going to include some information here that many of you will find useful in regards to the IRONMAN. Please don’t take that in any way as an invitation to look to me as your sole IRONMAN triathlon information source. 🙂
In fact, if you’re looking to buy a home or a condo here on the Big Island of Hawaii and are really into triathlons, I am definitely going to find you someone else — pretty much anyone but me to be your agent — and ultimately, I will find the right agent for you. Why? I think it is very important to match you, the client, to an agent who has similar tastes, as that is the way to make sure you have good, clear, communication about wants and needs for the type of place you’re looking for.
So for now, I just want to help as I know many people are looking up road closures and want to find the official site – etc. as that is something I know I can help with.
The Ironman is held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 this year, and there are festivities leading up to it that will affect everyone in the area.
First: the town of Kailua Kona and the surrounding areas will be PACKED with people, so allow for extra driving time and finding a parking space. Take advantage of Uber or a local taxi company, if you can.
Second: there has been construction recently on Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway with road changes, and this is ongoing, so pay close attention to what is happening there, and be aware that you’ll be sharing the roadway with cyclists and runners.
Third: road closures will be roaming, but they will start in the downtown area mostly surrounding the Kailua Pier on Thursday, Oct 12 at 6 a.m., and spread out on Saturday to affect the entire race route from up in Hawi along the highways, to down Ali’i where the marathon turns around at Kahalu’u Beach Park.
Check the road closure map that Ironman has posted here.
So, to sum up:
When it comes to triathlons, I’m not your person; when it comes to finding the right agent for what you want to buy, definitely give me a call. Oh and if you want to golf or set up a tee time nearby, just let me know!
