Improve Your Memory and Concentration

One major quality you will need to complete any goal is the ability to concentrate. If you are like most people, eventually you will experience periods where it is difficult to focus. It can be very frustrating when you are unable to be productive because you lack focus. No real progress is the only reward you will receive for your lost time in confusion and indecision.

If you are having trouble concentrating, there are proven natural techniques to help you buckle down and focus on your urgent “to do” list. One very effective method to regain your mental agility is to practice yoga and meditation. Recent scientific research has shown yoga exercise can improve concentration levels (Medical News). Although yoga is a full-body workout, one principal component of the routine promotes a focus discipline for the mind.

Dharana

The masters of yoga call this discipline “Dharana,” a Sanskrit word meaning “single focus.” It is the sixth limb of yoga designed to help experience the first stage of meditation. Dharana works when you remove yourself from all distractions and hold a single thought. With complete awareness, you block all thoughts and emotions and then concentrate on just one thing.

When done correctly, Dharana will shut off chaotic thoughts and teach you to focus your mind on a single point, thought, object, or goal. If you use Dharana as part of your daily meditation, then it will reduce mental stress and strengthen your ability to concentrate. You can accomplish more challenges in less time when you simply eliminate the confusion from an indecisive mind.

Yoga and meditation will help you discover a better way to take advantage of peaceful moments to collect, review, process, and achieve your daily goals.

How to Meditate

Close your eyes. See your tensions flow from your physical body. Mentally scan your body from head to toe, feeling deep relaxation and peace within. Your mind and body are relaxed and your thoughts flow with ease. Your journey is one of spiraling consciousness…release emotions of fear, pain, and anger. Return to your true essence of love and compassion. Your heart is light and filled with love. Breathe and be still.
