Hokua condos represent timeless oceanfront luxury in the Oahu real estate market. Buyers consider Hokua condos for sale as some of the top luxury properties in Honolulu. Completed in 2006, to this day, the Hokua is a preferred residence for many buyers seeking to live in the heart of Kakaako. Beautiful ocean views and spectacular amenities make Hokua condos a favorite for many.
Hokua has amazing unobstructed ocean views from almost every residence. Located right across the street from Ala Moana Beach Park, residents have a direct view of the ocean from across the park. Waikiki and Diamond Head are also visible from many of the units, and so is Kewalo Harbor Marina.
Luxury condos in Honolulu are more abundant than they were when the Hokua was first completed in 2006. Developers are now bringing the best products, features, and amenities to compete with luxury real estate in other parts of the world. It is no longer enough to offer middle of the road buildings just because of the amazing location. Sophisticated and wealthy buyers are seeking the best of the best, and are willing to spend the money to get it. The Honolulu luxury market has stepped up its game in the recent years, and there are some incredible properties. The Hokua, despite being a little older, is still considered as one of the top luxury condos in Honolulu.
Hokua at 1288 Ala Moana (its formal name) has secured one of the best locations in Kakaako. Since it was completed way ahead of the current Honolulu luxury condo boom, the developers, Kobayashi and McNaughtors, had a little more opportunity when it came to available land options back in the early 2000’s.
The Hokua is located in the adjacent block next to Ala Moana Center, making it convenient for residents. With the beach across the street, and the mall a block over, it’s no wonder that the Hokua remains one of the most popular condominium projects in Honolulu to this day. It’s worth noting that Ala Moana Center has seen its share of changes, making it the ultimate destination for residents and visitors. Hokua residents can enjoy the convenience to hundreds of stores, restaurants, and a brand-new Foodland grocery store.
Right across the street, on the west side of the building, is the beginning of the Howard Huges Ward Village development. South Shore Market is home to a coffee shop and creative merchandise from small local businesses. TJ Maxx, Pier One Imports, Bed Bath & Beyond, Nordstrom Rack, and a multitude of other boutiques, specialty stores, beauty salons, and restaurants make up the Ward Village shopping plaza. Hokua is also home to two restaurants, Tango Contemporary Cafe and Papaya Bistro.
Luxury condos at the Hokua shine with the floor to ceiling glass windows. The glass spans the width of the walls in each of the units. Corner units and Hokua penthouses have even more open glass walls with light coming in to every room. Even many of the bathrooms have beautiful windows and views. The amazing indoor-outdoor experience is further enhanced when huge glass doors leading to the lanai are opened up. The lanais are narrow and not suitable for outdoor furniture, but Hokua owners can experience the beautiful blue of the ocean and the light trade winds without any filters when the glass doors are opened.
The residences, mostly 2 and 3 bedrooms, range in size from a little over 1,500 sqft to over 3,000 sqft. Hokua penthouses can be even larger, at over 4,000 and 5,000 sqft. With sunshine the majority of the time, light pours into these residences, and the amazing blue of the water is absolutely breathtaking. It’s no wonder that these spacious, bright condos are such a draw for many.
The open layouts of the interiors are also what today’s buyers desire. Open kitchens with beautiful cabinetry and gas cook-tops, large living areas, and high ceilings create a functional and welcoming space for owners and guests. Each unit has ample closet space. Each condo also comes with a storage locker or storage rooms in the garage area for added room for an owner’s belongings.
So here is something that most people purchasing a condo in Honolulu would not think of, but it’s an interesting fact worth mentioning. With Honolulu, space is at a premium; parking spaces and parking garages can get uncomfortably tight. With large condo complexes especially, there are typically several floors dedicated to the garage space and resident parking. Circling around each floor not only takes time, but can be a little challenging at times, when other cars are heading the opposite direction and turning the corner at the same time. Hokua has a spiral ramp, often seen in commercial garages or airports. This allows residents to quickly go up and down to their floor without having to circle around each level. Storage lockers or storage rooms, along with bike racks and surfboard storage, are available to the residents.
When it comes to amenities, the Hokua does not disappoint. The most beautiful feature of the amenities deck is the large infinity pool that overlooks the ocean over Ala Moana Beach Park. It’s a perfect size for recreational swimming or doing laps. The hot tub is adjacent to the pool for moments of relaxation, along with an outdoor shower, lounge chairs, and open space areas.
The amenities deck itself has a very large footprint. Aside from the pool area, residents can enjoy playing tennis at the private tennis courts, host dinners and BBQ in private outdoor cabanas, watch kids play in the kids park and play structure, and take their dogs to one of two fenced-in dog parks.
As with many of the newer condos in Honolulu, Hokua has 5 guest suites available for rent. Friends or guests can comfortably stay in the building without having to figure out sleeping arrangements in the condo units or having to find a hotel room. Every situation and comfort has been carefully considered and implemented, giving the owners the convenience of living in a condo, with luxuries and amenities of a single-family home.
For larger parties and gatherings, owners can reserve private lounge space that’s equipped with a fully functional kitchen. Whether the event is catered or owners cook for everyone, the space is there for residents and guests to enjoy.
Residents looking to stay fit have the beach as one of their options. For those wanting to enjoy the outdoors, whether it be swimming, jogging, strolling, paddle boarding, or riding scooter, Ala Moana Beach Park is a wonderful place. The park and the beach are available to the residents 365 days a year. Owners who enjoy exercising also have a fitness room available to them in the building, equipped with free weights, treadmills, and other exercise equipment.
Ocean View Condos in Honolulu
With the quickly changing Honolulu skyline and the busy Oahu real estate market, considering any of the Hokua condos that are currently for sale is a great move for anyone seeking to purchase a luxury condominium in the beautiful location of Kakaako.
Nauru Towers is on the left of the building, and future development will come in on the right. Even with additional building to the right, ocean views will most likely only be minimally impacted for many of the residents of the Hokua. With the V-like design and many of the windows facing forward over the park, ocean views will likely stay intact for many years to come. Since the future cannot be predicted, and as a Realtor I can’t guarantee a view, it is best to schedule a visit and preview any of the condos for sale at the Hokua, and get a true understanding of how amazing these residences are.
