Pe’ahi Farms: North Shore Beaches in Your Backyard

Pe‘ahi Farms is ideally located at Opana Point, the northernmost point of Maui’s North Shore. The farmlands are secluded by design, but they are not far from towns, beaches, beach parks, and surf spots.

Jaws

Pe‘ahi Farms is less than a mile from the legendary surf break known as Jaws. (Its Hawaiian place name is Pe‘ahi, which means “wave” in the Hawaiian language.) From October until the end of March, wave sizes at Jaws can exceed 60 feet. It is home to big-wave surfing competitions and Pe‘ahi Farms offers a vantage point to watch. For up-to-date conditions, look at the Pacific Islands Ocean Observing System (PacIOOS) live wave observation charts.

Baldwin Beach Park

Baldwin Beach Park is about 20 minutes away from Pe‘ahi Farms. The park has a lifeguard station, restrooms, showers, picnic areas, barbecue grills, a covered pavilion, a sports field, and ample parking. At the west end of the mile-long Baldwin Beach is Baby Beach, which fronts a small, protected lagoon. The lagoon’s calm and shallow waters make Baby Beach ideal for families with small children, hence its name. Baldwin Beach Park also provides access to the Northshore Greenway, a 3.7-mile-long paved pathway that runs from the Pā‘ia Youth & Cultural Center to Kanahā Beach Park in Kahului.
