Ewa Beach Hoakalei Entertainment Complex

For years now there has been much speculation, debate, and issues surrounding the Ewa Beach, Hoakalei Wai Kai Lagoon area. When the developer Haseko started the first phase of the resort style building of single-family homes and townhomes many were left wondering about the lagoon area. This was originally slated by the developer as a possible deep water marina. Many homeowner’s bought properties thinking this would increase the homes values.

Unfortunately, the marina was scrapped by the developer and many homeowners felt cheated and lawsuits were filed. Fast forward to 2019, and the project is back on track as a destination complex. This will be a mixed-use destination with projected homes, a possible hotel, water access, restaurants shops, and so much more.

Ewa Beach Location

Most people who live in and around the Ewa Beach area have no idea that this location even exists. Situated along the waters edge in the middle of two great beaches, White Plains and One’ula Beach Park sits the Haseko lagoon complex. This has been a massive pile of dirt just adjacent to the private Ernie Els golf course for years with a lagoon in the center. There is a nature trail connecting the beaches and if you walk between the ocean and chain link fence you can get a glimpse of the project. The lagoon for years was used for rowing and team water events but now is a private area. As you leave the developments and head towards the water the road ends with a manned guard gate. This is the entrance to the project for now.

The private Wai Kai Lagoons have been open and operating for years as part of the amenities of the surrounding Haseko communities. If your HOA is part of the project you can enjoy the water toys, beach chairs, and sand surrounding this private oasis. This is also where the newly erected clubhouse is located for the golf course. As of today, the club is offering social and restaurant memberships to the local residents.

New Project Details

The project has been kept very quiet for a number of years with only a whisper here and there of what is planned. Now the developer has officially released information about the reported $300M mixed-use complex. The reports are talking about up to 24 restaurants and cafes with numerous commercial tenants. The developer apparently was seeking a very select and elite mix of tenancy and now has leases signed with construction ready to go. The construction vehicles have been busy working and the roads, electric, water, and infrastructure look complete.

There have been numerous roads and bridges connecting the community with the project for years now. These look to be almost complete and ready to service the expected large number of visitors both residential and tourists alike. It is still not clear how all this will look when finished but they are reporting it might be opened at the end of 2019 or early 2020. The Ewa Beach area has enjoyed numerous commercial projects over the last several years with more coming online every day. The once quiet communities are now teaming with homes, businesses, and shopping centers. Like most construction and expansion in the state of Hawaii, this is meet with both a positive and negative view depending on your beliefs.

Aloha David,
Good article- I own inside Lei Pauku – very close to the Lagoon…Since I rent it out until 2021, when I move to semi retire in Oahu, I actively look for articles related to the cuter of the lagoon..and when plans are set to start development; including proposed development of condos on the location of the temporary Club House.
Are there any web sites that offer current information on overall development?
Thanks,
Tim
