This rustic, post and beam cabin sits at the back of one acre of rainforest. Built in 2010, it features locally-sourced, sustainably grown eucalyptus hardwood floors and ceilings. Ready for a composting toilet and a solar set up, it is completely off-grid, though the home is set up for catchment, there is no system in place. Located down a paved road in Eden Roc subdivision, this property has a small cinder parking space, and only access to the cabin is down an 80-foot path of hand-cleared forest. Although overgrown, this lot has been planted with bamboo, kahili ginger, palm, pineapples, ti, and more. The forest is dense guavvi, uluhe, hapu'u fern, with giant stands of ginger, impatiens and some larger ohia by the house. Designed and built by an engineer/architect, it was initially intended as retreat and studio space. There is over 500 sqft of tongue and groove eucalyptus still on the building site that matches the main house material, and CAD drawings are available (must have Autocad to view).
From Hilo, take Highway 11 towards Mountain View. Turn left on South Kopua Road. Follow pavement into Hawaii's Eden Roc Estates and take first left onto Palainui Street. Drive past Ulei Street (or Road 6...numbers painted in center of the road) and look for short pull out driveway on left with rope across it just before Kolea Street (Road 7). Sign sits just off of the road in driveway. Walk around sign to right and follow path down to cabin.
