Here are some reasons why I think that now may be the time to buy a vacation rental here on the Big Island:
- Hotels are hiring: After several years of layoffs the resort hotels are hiring again. In this economy employment seems to be the thing to watch and most of the resorts are hiring now in anticipation of a busy winter season.
- Prices are low: For example a condo at the Waikoloa Colony Villas (MLS# 235089) just dropped its price to $379,000. The seller paid $540,000 for it back in 2004.
- Slow season: We have entered a slow period for sales here. Buyers are few. Come winter the competition will heat up.
