I love “Hawaiian Style” architecture so when Tobi & Matt let it be known that our office would be located at the old Maui Land & Pineapple headquarters, I was there…no questions asked.

Hawaii Life Maui Office

An old Hawaii real estate legacy, Maui Land & Pineapple C0., makes room for new technology focused brokerage, Hawaii Life.

What an amazing space! The property consists of 4 “pods” with intersecting walkways. There is a conference room located in one of the pods with the largest conference table I’ve ever seen. Floor to ceiling windows and lots of natural light.

This building was a special location to me growing up. I lived about 4 blocks away. I remember that most of my friends in high school worked at the pineapple cannery during the summer.

Recently, I noticed that there was a building that looked very similar in design located in Wailea, where I walk with my dogs. So I picked up one of my favorite books, Under a Maui Roof, and began to do some research. Read entire post →

This time of year it’s common to see the whales migrating south, but you never take their beauty for granted.

The latest, newest, and hottest Maui Luxury Resort on the West Side.

Honua Kai Pool

Honua Kai—Maui’s premiere resort living.

I just recently closed on a studio unit at the Honua Kai, Hokulani Tower, unit 523 (MLS# 341243). The first night my wife and I stayed in it, we woke up to whales breaching right from our bed.

This beautiful unit not only has amazing ocean views, but is equipped with brand new, state of the art appliances and furniture including a big flat screen at the foot of the bed.

The views are amazing! I watched three different pods of whales playing while sitting on my lanai. The whales and a fresh cup of coffee; that’s a perfect way to start the morning. Read entire post →

I came across this incredible time-lapse photography piece of the Milky Way and stars as seen from the summit of Mauna Kea on the Big Island.

It’s stunningly beautiful, and we’re able to see it because of the lack of light-pollution on the Big Island…which for me is such a powerful reminder of all the other types of pollution that Hawaii is so blessed to be without Read entire post →

OMG!! You would think people never saw food before.

Whole Foods Market opens on Maui

Maui’s “healthiest’” real estate offerings →

Last week the national health food store chain Whole Foods Market opened in Central Maui, luckily right around the corner from our new Hawaii Life Real Estate Maui Office. I had the pleasure of visiting it the second day it opened and had to circle the parking lot 6 times before stalking someone for a space.

I’ve been to a Whole Foods before so I knew what to expect but for some local residents this was their first time experiencing this gourmet shopping venue. The prepared foods section was jammed packed and people were wandering around star struck at the vast selections of everything from organic wines to the Shrimp Thai Basil Noodle Bowl that is prepared fresh and hot before your eyes. It was exciting to see people eating things that were good for them and making a conscious effort to be kind to their bodies. I grabbed a quick Kale salad and tried to bolt but ran into about 15 friends as I was making my way to the door. Not only good food but apparently Maui’s new social gathering place as well. Contemplating a move to Hawaii brings up many lifestyle issues, including health care.

Insurance aside, I am going to speak about the Malama (Care) aspect of health care here in the islands. Having just faced a major personal health issue, I know first hand how it goes here in Hawaii. From my first visit and check up with my primary care physician to my last stay in the hospital, I can honestly say it was a beautiful, comforting, and happy (yes, happy), experience.

In Hawaii, each individual is treated with care, compassion, respect and with the feeling of truly being a part of the Ohana (Family). The doctors, nurses, and technicians are professional, top of their field, and dedicated to their patients. Combining western and eastern medicine, along with traditional Hawaiian healing methods, the whole person is treated, mind, body and spirit. Read entire post →

Here in Kona the draw is the ocean – the sports it creates like surfing, diving, sportfishing, paddling canoes and stand up paddle boards – and the frosting on the cake is all of the amazing creatures within

Lucky my daily morning routine involves slipping into the warm ocean waters in Kona at the break of dawn….yes, even in the winter the water is warm! I often swim with the dolphins and watch their amazing antics – I am so grateful my days are filled with amazing experiences in this wonderful island environment. Sometimes I will go a week without seeing the dolphins and I wonder what dolphin party is being held and where!  Then they are back visiting me with curious eyes. Read entire post →
