I love “Hawaiian Style” architecture so when Tobi & Matt let it be known that our office would be located at the old Maui Land & Pineapple headquarters, I was there…no questions asked.
An old Hawaii real estate legacy, Maui Land & Pineapple C0., makes room for new technology focused brokerage, Hawaii Life.
What an amazing space! The property consists of 4 “pods” with intersecting walkways. There is a conference room located in one of the pods with the largest conference table I’ve ever seen. Floor to ceiling windows and lots of natural light.
This building was a special location to me growing up. I lived about 4 blocks away. I remember that most of my friends in high school worked at the pineapple cannery during the summer.
Recently, I noticed that there was a building that looked very similar in design located in Wailea, where I walk with my dogs. So I picked up one of my favorite books, Under a Maui Roof, and began to do some research. Read entire post →

Here in Kona the draw is the ocean – the sports it creates like surfing, diving, sportfishing, paddling canoes and stand up paddle boards – and the frosting on the cake is all of the amazing creatures within
Lucky my daily morning routine involves slipping into the warm ocean waters in Kona at the break of dawn….yes, even in the winter the water is warm! I often swim with the dolphins and watch their amazing antics – I am so grateful my days are filled with amazing experiences in this wonderful island environment. Sometimes I will go a week without seeing the dolphins and I wonder what dolphin party is being held and where! Then they are back visiting me with curious eyes. Read entire post →
Valuable info provided by NOAA's Pacific Tsunami Warning Center
The threat of a tsunami wreaking havoc on the people and infrastructure of Hawaiian island shores has passed! We dodged a bullet!!
Authorities confirmed that a tsunami generated by the 8.8 earthquake off Chile did indeed hit the Hawaiian island chain, reaching the Big Island first with diminished effects as it headed N/NW.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s “Pacific Tsunami Warning Center” is fully prepared for this type of event, (even though the last state-wide tsunami warning was over 25 years ago). Read entire post →
Hanapa’a! An achievement phrase when one’s got a fish on the line. Kailua-Kona, A prized fishing destination!
Hawaii is one of the worlds top deep sea fishing locations! It’s the geography of the Big Island that makes Kona the sport fishing capital of the Pacific ocean. The mountain masses of Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, Kohala, Hualalai and Kilauea protect the Kona coast from the winds, resulting in perfect sea conditions! With Hualalai’s steep slope into the ocean, deep sea sport fishing is within a short distance from the shoreline. Just three miles straight out of the harbor, it’s more than 6,000 feet deep! The most remarkable is “The Dolphin House”. This stunning 3 bedroom 3 1/2 bath home was released to market about two months ago at $1,750,000. The owner wants it sold so they just dropped the price $375,000 to $1,375,000. All the more remarkable is the seller paid $2,400,000 just a little over two years ago. Now that’s a million dollar price drop!
Another home worth considering is a 4 bedroom, 6 bath home at 78-6803 Kuhinanui Way priced at $995,000, an amazing price for this neighborhood. The seller paid $1,380,000 way back in 2007. Read entire post →
