Here in Kona the draw is the ocean – the sports it creates like surfing, diving, sportfishing, paddling canoes and stand up paddle boards – and the frosting on the cake is all of the amazing creatures within
Lucky my daily morning routine involves slipping into the warm ocean waters in Kona at the break of dawn….yes, even in the winter the water is warm! I often swim with the dolphins and watch their amazing antics – I am so grateful my days are filled with amazing experiences in this wonderful island environment. Sometimes I will go a week without seeing the dolphins and I wonder what dolphin party is being held and where! Then they are back visiting me with curious eyes. More »

Keauhou Canoe Club
Outrigger canoe paddling has been a traditional sport of the Hawaiian culture for hundreds of years. Now recognized worldwide, there are clubs from Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, even Europe! Teams enjoy the ride together, everyone having a part, utilizing their strength to move a canoe. This strong spirited sport knows no age – young and old all have a part. Whether racing competitively or cruising at leisure, outrigger canoe paddling is a guaranteed awesome experience.
Watching the six man crew move a 500lb outrigger canoe with absolute finesse gliding over the pacific ocean, everyone hitting the water with their paddles at the same time, perfectly in sync, fading into the distance, that’s the sight from Keauhou Bay, as the canoe club practices in the early morning. Wow, what great exercise – outdoors, on the water, fresh air and spinner dolphins jumping! Who needs a gym with an active outdoor lifestyle like that?

MLS#226225, so close to the water...
Just a short distance from the waters edge at Keauhou Bay is peaceful living for under $600,000! (Kailua-Kona real estate offers some amazing values these days.) With a comfortable floor plan of two bedrooms and a loft, vaulted ceilings and large lanai with partial bay views for entertaining, this home is only a stone’s throw away from jumping right into the nearest outrigger canoe. You’ll be out on the water before you know it, enjoying the Big Island lifestyle, in a traditional Hawaiian way.

Every Morning is magic in Kona for me! I can’t imagine life elsewhere. Grabbing a mug of hot kona coffee is great! My day starts, and this steamy mug of Kona’s best doesn’t compare to grabbing my stand up paddle board as the morning light is halfway dawning. No morning is the same as the last.
My good friends Robin and Kim have an oceanfront home at Kahaluu and its off to my right as I paddle out into the bay. Vacation renters are there…I see a light in the kitchen. No one else seems to be up this early. It’s pristine and I never can figure out how in the half light of dawn the reef underwater beneath my board has more light than the atmosphere around me. The fish are all visible – yellow tang, angle fish and puffer fish too. The manta ray is over there… I see her wing tips and mosey over for a better look. The black and white pattern on her back is a mind blower – I am cautious when my eyes see that long tail behind her! The finishing touch is the whale 800 yards off! What a show! I am pinching my self… is this for real?? And it was this morning! Unlike any other, every morning in Kona is magical.
I spend a hour or two nearly every morning like this and then head to work selling Kailua-Kona real estate. The oceanfront home owners see my regular routine – often they’re in the water with me! I have the joy of marketing and selling the most incredible oceanfront and nearly oceanfront properties in Kona. Through the years I’ve been blessed to know many owners and understand the idiosyncrasies of these very special properties. And it is what I love to do more than anything.
I see Gloria jogging by and mention a showing today at her Vintage Cottage next to Magic Sands beach. That listing is so close to my house, I’ll probably ride my beach cruiser down for the showing. Lucky I live Hawai’i!

Kukio Ocean Clubhouse
Yesterday was another gorgeous day spent on the West side of the Big Island! Spending the morning looking at amazing homes, like this stunner listed at $12.5M, morphed into lunch at the Beach Club where we enjoyed the owners’ lifestyle for an hour or two. Mahalo nui loa, Sam and Carrie!

Going on the Auction Block Jan. 18th, 2010
You may recall the auction that happened earlier this year at Hualalai, the Four Seasons luxury resort just north of Kukio. On January 18, 2010, somewhere from two to five properties between Hualalai and Kukio will be auctioned off as well. Read about it in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal: Friday Diversion: The House that Cher Built.
A Property on Ka Neke Place in Kukio, previously listed for $8,450,00 will go up for auction, with no reserve. We will be present to view the auction, and likely will have a client or two bidding this time around. It is the next wave in the Hawaii Luxury Real Estate market. So grab this chance to bid on a super-luxurious Kukio or Hualalai estate, and live the Hawaii Life of your future!

Kukio is the Big Island’s most gracious and private residential club community, located approximately 10 minutes north of Kona International Airport. It is 1,100 acres of oceanfront property that embodies an elegant Hawaiian luxury lifestyle unmatched anywhere. The magnificent community and luxurious amenities found at Kukio, coupled with the near-perfect South Kohala climate, makes Kukio Resort a fantastic place to get away from it all. I have raised my family on the Big Island. I love that I can see our local and Pro-Surfers any given day here at Kukio, where they have chosen to reside and raise their families as well. I added a photo of my son and grandson doing one of their favorite Big Island pastimes.
Life at Kukio is centered around the amazing beach club and water sports center with all its amenities and spa facilities. And, of course, there’s the Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole golf course located in the uplands and a 10-hole short course adjacent to the beach club. Find out more about these courses at http://faziogolf.com.
I love my days spent at Kukio lounging on a stand up paddle board amongst dolphins playing and jumping right next to me! I am captured before sunrise here on a wave. I love it!
Kukio is an unbelievable secret which I am willing to share with you so don’t hesitate to call me for your private tour. Here is a Gallery of some of my favorite Kukio Properties. Heidi’s Favorite Kukio Properties.

Fun Before Sunrise

I had fun again in the water at Kukio Resort… stand-up paddling at Hawaii’s premier exclusive beach and golf club at the private residential community of Kukio.
I learned that the woman on the beach working at the clubhouse had just recently won the women’s Stand Up Paddling Division of the recent Molokai Canoe Race
and they use boards provided by Jim Hays at www.tropicalblendsurf.com among others. I have boards from his shop and his new designs are awesome!
I am really getting involved in the sport of Stand Up Paddling almost daily. I really enjoyed spending another day in the water at Kukio’s incredible beach where I could admire the properties for sale there, especially the new to the market home and others I have linked for your review: Kukio Property Gallery. Some of these homes are located right above the amazingly blue waters and white sandy beach of Kua Bay. These properties show Hawaiian living at its best! I love spending time in the water on my stand-up board, and I’m a great resource for anyone who wants to get into the sport. I have boards for sale!

I met an old cowboy in Kona a couple weeks ago and I entered a new circle of people and friends here on the Big Island. I loved meeting Ron , a 65 year old cowboy and a western saddle and tack maker. He was flown out here by local ranchers from Oregon where he had suffered bad asthma. When he arrived in Kona he was shocked that his asthma went away….even in Kona with some of the volcanic emissions (VOG )from distant Kilauea volcano, Ron says his asthma is better! This fact made him move here right away. So I helped him find a home in quiet Naalehu that he wants to buy and after a little negotiating we just found out the Seller accepted his offer today which is also Ron’s birthday….a good sign Ron says!
He is so happy and the girls at the local bank are already bringing him horse tack to repair and spreading the word. It looks like he is going to be a busy cowboy. He said that there are other saddle makers in the islands but that they all build the Hawaiian saddle (much like a Spanish saddle in design) and Ron has been in local saddle maker gatherings on-island and says he is the only Western saddle maker on the Big Island.

Horses at Waikii Ranch, Big Island
Ranching is a big thing on the Big Island of Hawaii, Molokai, Maui and some of the other islands, with many cowboys and cowgirls enjoying the sport of Ranching, rodeos and horseback riding. I have a client who has a thriving horseback trail riding business called Paniolo (Cowboy) Adventures. His site is www.panioloadventures.com. He is located outside of Waimea, Kamuela in the incredible Kohala mountains. This horse activity stirs my cowboy blood as I grew up on a Ranch in California in my early years where I rode horses daily.
In our local paper, www.hawaiitribune-herald.com the Oct 4th I read that Parker Ranch continues its strugle to manage its 150,000 acre ranch and other holdings and will be selling off 3,509 acres of its North Kohala property soon. This is not available for sale yet but here are some ranching properties for your review: Big Island Ranch Properties
