Central Maui Sports Complex – Outdoor Family Fun

As a resident of The Legends of Maui Lani and a father of a 4-year-old little girl with her puppy, a 5-month-old Australian Shepard, in tow, we walk the grounds of the new sports complex (Phase 1). As kids are playing their respective sports on these fields, I envision my little soccer star walking with us as a family to her practice and games. I think of how happy I am to have made the move to Central Maui from the West Side when my wife was pregnant with our daughter. We will now be able to walk to her practices and games.

Everything is brand new, fresh green grass everywhere. It totals 24 acres with two restrooms, two softball fields, and one big soccer pitch. It is located directly behind The New Traditions of Maui Lani and across from Pomaika’i Elementary. Opening day was on March 12th with a Maui Girls softball season opener game. This is only Phase 1. Phase 2 and 3 are still under construction. The park is managed by Maui County Department of Parks and Recreation.

Residents in the Maui Lani area have been biking over with the kids and dogs in the evening after work. It has been a pleasant experience for families to get outside and play; once the dogs come off the leashes and socialize with each other, it is on. It is like they have their own soccer pitch to go to chase each other around till their hearts are content.

Practices are now being held in the evenings now too. We are starting to see the drone races and remote controlled car racing in the parking lot. It has become a fun family atmosphere where you can go and meet up with your neighbors, talk story while getting the energy out of the kids and dogs. The open fields allow plenty of room to throw the disk or ball, catch, fetch, or both. The restrooms are nice and clean and have easy access.
