Ultimate Guide To Kai Makani: Everything You Need To Know

I live at Kai Makani Beach Villas and I am your resident expert! I’ve lived in the community for a few years now and know the area very well. With that said, I find that many people just don’t know about this community and what a great alternative this area is to some of the more congested (Central Kihei) and more expensive (Wailea) areas near the beach. With a lot of thought, I’ve put together the essential package of everything you need to know about Kai Makani Beach Villas. I hope you find it useful, and please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with specific questions.

Let’s Start With Location

Kai Makani Beach Villas is located in North Kihei, across the street from a great beach park. This location allows you to be in Wailuku, Kahului, or Wailea in less than 15 minutes.

Nearby, you’ll find Kihei Canoe Club offering both recreational and competitive outrigger canoeing. If you haven’t tried outrigger canoeing, you can give it a try on Tuesday and Thursday mornings when the club takes visitors and residents out for a one hour adventure.

After your morning paddle, head across the street to Sugar Beach Bakeshop for a morning pastry and coffee. My favorite item on the menu is their Da Kine quiche with Portuguese sausage. ABC Store (for a quick snack and drinks), Dina’s Sandwitch (no that’s not a typo), and Ululani’s Shave Ice are all located nearby. Of course, you also have all of the fantastic restaurants in Kihei and Wailea within an easy 5-15 minute drive from Kai Makani Beach Villas as well.

It’s All About the Beach

Let’s face it, this community is all about beach living. Whether it’s a cocktail at sunset, a morning paddle session with friends, or a sandcastle project with the kids, most people choose this community for the easy access to the beach and the beach lifestyle. There’s no need to pack up the car, you can simply walk across the street and have your toes in the sand in less than 2 minutes!

Many residents of Kai Makani enjoy stand-up paddling and often go out together in the mornings. Others enjoy kayaking or canoeing. Whatever your style, Kai Makani Beach Villas gives you the beach lifestyle you’ve been craving.

What About the Floor Plans?

Kai Makani Beach Villas has 5 floor plans, of which 4 are two-bedroom. With any community, there are pros and cons to each floor plan depending on your personal living needs and style.

Two-Bedroom Floor Plans

The Protea floor plan is the entry level floor plan at 811 square feet of living space. This two-bedroom floor plan offers a breakfast bar and small dining space, although many choose to eat outside every day given the great weather and location. The two bedrooms have some nice separation, which is great when you have guests visiting. The lanai offers 177 square feet of additional outdoor living space.

The Plumeria floor plan offers 823 square feet of living space. This floor plan offers a larger dining area than the Protea, but does not have a breakfast bar. Again, the bedrooms have some nice separation for privacy. The lanai on the Plumeria floor plan is 158 square feet.

Upgraded kitchen in the Gardenia floor plan (MLS #368066)

The Gardenia floor plan is 1,075 square feet of living space and has an especially wide feeling, most likely due to being in the middle of the villas. This floor plan gives you larger bedrooms in both the master and guest bedroom. The Gardenia has a spacious kitchen with a breakfast bar. This floor plan offers the largest lanai in Kai Makani Beach Villas, with 232 square feet of outdoor living space.

The Hibiscus floor plan is 1,126 square feet of living space and has a larger dining space. This floor plans’ bedrooms function as two master suites, with the guest bathroom being accessible by both the guest bedroom and the hallway. The lanai on the Hibiscus floor plan is 184 square feet.

Three-Bedroom Floor Plan

The Orchid floor plan is the only three-bedroom floor plan in Kai Makani Beach Villas. This floor plan offers 1,238 square feet of living space. While the bedrooms are on the cozy side, it’s nice to have the extra space if you need it. The bedroom closest to the kitchen has an especially deep closet, which some owners have used to create a pantry for the kitchen. The lanai on the Orchid floor plan is 139 square feet, enough for a dining set.

Amenities

Kai Makani has some great amenities in the community, such as the heated saline pool. This is one of the larger pools that you’ll find in Kihei residential condominium communities. It’s quite unusual to find such a large pool in this area. The pool is saline (salt water) and is usually heated to 84 degrees. Once you’ve lived on Maui for some time, your body will acclimate to the weather and you’ll really appreciate having a heated pool in the winter months. Tough life, I know! You’ll also find a well equipped fitness center, spa, BBQ stations, and additional storage (per plan) in the community.

It’s More Than a Condo, It’s a Community

Kai Makani Beach Villas has a great group of residents and I’ve made so many friends since I’ve lived in this community. Once a month, residents gather at the beach for sunset, have a glass of wine, and talk story. About once every three months or so, we have a pool party, which have included community BBQ’s or pupu parties. All of our events are a great time to gather with friends and to build a stronger community. If you’d like to know more about our community events, checkout our Facebook page.
