Do I Have To Be on the Hawaii Life TV Show in Order to Buy Property on Maui?

I was asked this today while sitting at the Shops at Wailea office and it got me to thinking. Many people are fans of the Hawaii Life TV show on HGTV and don’t completely understand how this works. The show is a great way to spread the word about our company and showcase the beauty of the islands and homes for sale, but it’s just entertainment!

Hawaii Life is primarily a real estate company in the State of Hawaii. It’s locally owned and operated, on all the major islands. We help buyers and sellers with their real estate needs. We can network together between islands to promote all properties listed with Hawaii Life. Anyone can use our services and there is no pressure or requirement to be on the TV show.

It’s business as usual, with multiple offices right here on Maui where we help you find that property you’re looking for, and guide you through the negotiations and escrow to your satisfaction.

  • Paia – On the Hana Highway at the Shops at Paia Bay. It’s a fun spot where you can watch the Paia parade go by every day!
  • Wailuku – At the corner of Main and Market Streets in the heart of Old Wailuku. A large office, so bring the whole family.
  • Wailea Town Center – This is our flagship location which is expanding to accommodate more clients as Wailea also expands.
  • Shops at Wailea – In the upper corner near the soon-to-open Island Country Market.

The Hawaii Life TV show is entertainment. It’s fun to watch and fun to dream about owning a home in Hawaii, and the episodes use real buyers, real people who have expressed a desire to be on the show. Of course not all buyers get picked to be on the show, and not all shows end up with closed sales, but we do our best to match up the buyers and the homes and make it worth your time to tune in. Let me know if you’d like to buy a home and be featured on the show and I can explain how that works.

You do not have to be on TV to buy a home on Maui with a Hawaii Life agent. So don’t be shy, contact your favorite Hawaii Lifer and start searching for that Maui property you’ve been dreaming of. I can help you right now…

When are you coming back with new episodes? there aren’t even any reruns to watch!

I have watched Hawaii Life since it started viewing. I am amazed that young couples with young families are moving from their established home and are now living the “Hawaiian Life”. Did they win a lottery. Is there a family inheritance. Most of them have no inclination to get jobs and I wonder how long do they last living the Hawaiian Life If there is a special formula, I am sure there are many of us who would like to know. As tempting as your show is and I would love to live the Hawaiian Life, on a financial basis, for the long haul, I do not think we could do it. How many peoples dreams are dashed a few years later.
thank you for listening

@Wade – The new season should begin this fall, in October probably, same as last year. But we need more buyers in order to make more Maui episodes… how about you?

@Marilyn – I understand what you’re saying and sometimes I wonder that myself. But I think there are plenty of people who can afford it, and they manage to pull it off. I can tell you about the couple who I worked with, just a young couple who were born and raised here… you wouldn’t expect them to be able to, but they are doing it! They are smart and hard working, and this is their second property so they understand about making all the payments on time and all that. Because rents here are high, they did the math and realized that it was better to buy than rent in Paia, and be in control of their own housing. Their first property was affordable because he’s half Hawaiian, and that was all they needed to get a good start (plus a good support system of family). They got their second property and they are putting a lot of effort into improving it so they will have some rental income soon. It is a big hill to climb, but it’s so worth it once you get past that hump and things do get a little easier eventually.
Sure, many come here and only last a few years, but that may or may not have anything to do with homeownership, and more with lifestyle and expectations. It’s very rural here on Maui still and some people crave what the big city life offers. Island life may not be for everyone, and that’s a good thing or it would soon be way too crowded here!
Please let me know if I can help to make your dreams a reality. We were once struggling and poor on Maui, but that was a long time ago.

Kim and I vacationed in Kona in April. We loved it and are planning our move in a few years when the kids are out of school. We would love to see more shows in the Kona area. Thanks!!

@Joe Thanks for your comment. Be sure to connect with an agent on the Big Island and maybe you can even be a star in one of the episodes… but you don’t have to if you prefer not to.
