Hokua at 1288 Ala Moana Blvd: Pet-Friendly Modern Elegance & a Host of Amenities

Hokua is a relatively recent Honolulu high rise, being completed in 2006, and was developed by Kobayashi and McNaughton, highly regarded and well respected Builder/Developers. It is also very pet-friendly, allowing 2 dogs and a total body weight of 60 pounds (a nice change for those of us who live with a larger companion). The finishes are high-end, modern, and elegant.

Hokua’s amenities are some of the best Honolulu has to offer, including: 5 outdoor covered cabana areas, outfitted with gas grills, tennis court, large party rooms with a caterer’s kitchen, a kids’ playground with rubberized flooring, and even 2 gated doggie ‘parks,’ one for big and one for small dogs. There is also a state-of-the-art gym, and an infinity edge pool.

Available Units

Currently 6 units are available at Hokua, 4 two bed/two bath, a three bed/two and a half bath, and an almost 7,000 sq.ft. penthouse listed at $25,000,000. Although I am happy to discuss the penthouse with you (just contact me), I’ll keep the comparison discussion between the other five units for now.

There are two important choices to be made when shopping for a unit at Hokua. Floor height, higher is generally better as it allows for more expansive views, and also diminishes road noise from Ala Moana Blvd., and unit placement in the building. Hokua is a slightly angled building fronting Ala Moana Park and the Pacific Ocean, and either looks East towards Waikiki and Diamond Head, or West towards the Ewa Plain, or straight on ocean view

Two of the condos for sale are at the ends of the building, the G-stack (#20G), which looks East towards Diamond Head:

and the A-stack (#15A), which looks West towards Ewa:

Hokua 15A Living Room and View

#15A (MLS# 201504934)

Three units are middle C- and E-stacks:

#29E View
#29E (MLS# 201506006) View

So What’s the Smart Buy Here?

I’d say unit #32C, as it’s far away and the least expensive in the building right now. If you really need that third bedroom, or have to have western sunset views, then pick #15A – at 1,495/sq.ft. it is also the lowest price per square foot offered.

No matter what unit makes sense for you financially, emotionally, as a home, or an investment, the units at Hokua at 1288 Ala Moana Blvd. are well worth considering. Few condos in Honolulu can match them for livability, thoughtfulness, finishes, or amenities.
