I wasn’t planning on looking at condos for sale yesterday morning. It was a glorious day here in Waikiki with the blue ocean sparkling and the waves crashing. Felt like summer. Every morning I walk my dog along the beach, through the throngs of tourists, past the hotels to the quieter end of the beach at the foot of Diamond Head.
This stretch of older mid-century condos and even older cottages is hidden at this southern end of Kalakaua, the oceanfront Boulevard that runs the length of Waikiki Beach. It is quiet and gentle here with Kapiolani Park to one side. It is known locally as the Gold Coast. As I was nearing the end of Kalakaua I saw that there was an open house in a smaller condo building. Having never seen a unit in this building for sale, as they so seldom come up, I asked my friend to hold my dog while I took a quick look.
Noteworthy Features
Unit 4W in the 3056 Kalakaua Building (MLS# 201504433) is a 2 bed and 2 bath condo with wrap-around lanais and lovely ocean views over the tops of the neighboring cottages. The building is a small one. Only nine stories with two units to each floor. One unit faces the ocean and the other Diamond Head. This unit is an ocean view unit. That in itself is enough to like the condo. What is really special here is the care and style the present owners poured into the apartment.
It is a study in white. Glossy white walls and ceilings expand and reflect the light bouncing off the ocean. The contrast of the brilliant blue ocean is stunning. Ocean views are to the left, right, and center. The wrap-around lanais expand the space outwards and allow the sea breezes to flow right through the condo. Walls disappear.
The state of the art kitchen is generously sized for so small an apartment. It’s a cook’s kitchen, perfect for entertaining. Sleek and white with those amazing ocean views.
There are two bedrooms and two baths as well. The master bath is pictured below. Again, they have done wonders with the small space finding room for dual vanities. Again, high gloss white makes the smaller room fresh and bright as the rest of the apartment.
If you are looking for a stunning and updated apartment within walking distance to the restaurants, shops, and fun of Waikiki, but would like it a little quieter and a bit hidden from the crowds, this is the place.
