7 Acres on Oahu Offers the Perfect Playground for the Industrious

When I first visited this property with my client, it was such a surprise. I’ve driven along Kamehameha Highway many times passing by Kipapa Gulch, and never could I have imagined what I found here.

What Could You Do With the Property?

Having invested in property myself, mostly rental residential properties, and also having the dream of living “off the grid,” my mind began to wander across many potential uses for the property. Of course, please take these dreams with a grain of salt, investigate what you can out of them yourself as I am not an “off the grid” expert, and please live the dream for me.

Aquaponics & Hydroponics

First, I thought aquaponics and hydroponics. This is a very different property. Zoned for Agriculture use, it isn’t often you find land that doesn’t have certain restrictions from the City, such as easements below and along the property.

In this case, it may be challenging to use the land for farmland. However, with 7 acres, and trends these days that can be found in such articles on the future of farming as “What Role Will Aquaponics and Hydroponics Play in Future Farming” on the US Farmers website, we can see that the role of aquaponics and hydroponics may be in the future of farming.

With social change groups like Kanu Hawaii leading us to purchase and eat local products, and the price of food and living going up in an already expensive place to live, what would the world be like if you brought an affordable way to produce food on an island? The world is your opihi, and it’s quite within reach.

Use it for University Research

A second use would be to work with researchers and students at Universities that might want to set up their farm research environments to test such uses out. The University of Hawaii has its own agriculture program through the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources.

Imagine that you bring this to the University of Hawaii and have a thriving contract with them to use for experiments in farming organically through the new way for future farming, and the University of Hawaii becomes a leader in this industry. You would have a stable stream of income that could go on for generations while also creating a legacy by decreasing our carbon footprint.

House Animals

A third use would be as it currently is used. Guarded heavily by its caretakers and guard dogs, this property has farm equipment and resources to use for possibly creating manure for farming that will be conveyed with the property. It currently houses a variety of animals and can generate income by renting stalls out to people, housing their geese, pigs, and other animals. We can discuss more in person when you come to check out this functional and creative property.

What Resources Are Available?

On another note, if you are wondering what resources are available, please feel free to check out my colleagues blog post from last year on financing farm and vacant land. The dream may be more within your reach to live off the land, off the grid, and how life is meant to be than you ever imagined. Imagine your own possibilities, and then imagine this land in your hands.
