Enjoy a Sunday Afternoon Watching a Polo Match at Waikii Ranch

One of the best ways to enjoy a Sunday on the Big Island is to attend a polo match at Waikii Ranch. After an 11-year hiatus, local businesses donated money to the Mauna Kea Polo Club so that they could bring the tradition of Sunday polo matches back to Waikii Ranch here on the Big Island.

For the past three years, Mauna Kea Polo Club continues to invite the community to enjoy polo matches at Waikii Ranch. Every Sunday, now through December 15th, gates open at 12 noon and the games begin at 1 PM. $5 per adult and children 12 and under are free, this is one of the best-priced events on the island that everyone enjoys.

Polo matches at Waikii are awesome events where spectators may line the field with their tailgates to enjoy this exciting equestrian sport. Nestled next to a large cinder cone with Mauna Kea standing tall in the background, Waikii Ranch’s polo field is an incredibly picturesque place to spend an afternoon. Geographically speaking, there is no other place like it. During the winter months some locals opt to visit Mauna Kea’s snow capped summit and then head down the hill for a polo match.

Waikii’s high elevation attracts a wide array of weather patterns such as mist, fog, cool temperatures, to bright sunny days. So it is wise that you prepare yourself for changing weather patterns. If you are looking for something new to do here on the Big Island, and haven’t done so yet, I highly recommend attending a polo match. You won’t be disappointed.
